I'm a Reservist, and this would be a good place to get some back-channel input and comments on the GPS.

WE got any GPS WIZARDS out there?
I'm pretty fair at operating the chart plotter on the RBS. But I've got a Q -
We all know you can enter waypoints through the chart-plotter by hitting: MENU-WAYPOINTS AND ROUTES-WAYPOINTS....
OK, but we can ALSO enter waypoints thru the WAAS/DGPS display as well. It is harder to do, but it AINT rocket science.
So here's my Q -
Is there ANY BENEFIT in entering and using waypoints in that little-bitty screen on the DGPS?
I'm only asking to try to get MAXIMUM utility out of this system. Or how about this - if there are waypoints entered into the DGPS, will they interact with those entered thru the chart plotter?

Check out these sites:
Boawswainsmate.net under the General Coxswain & Crew Study Guides-----> the SINS and CG Nav Standards FAQ from Recommendations from the Boat Forces Center. Interesting reading.

MarineBM,
I see your a FF/Medic. I'm also full time FF/Medic. I'm looking to join CGR. I want to do SAR, patrols, ect. How do you like it? What rates are the best to pursue for someone with our civi experience? What was your training like for your rate. I see your were prior service, I'm NPS.
Thanks

I like the Coast Guard, it's a good break from work and I have used a lot of the skills I learned in the Guard at work and visa versa.

Depending on how long you have been a FF/PM you would probably come in as a PS3 like I did but my first drill weekend I put in for a rate change to BM. More choices for assignment but most of all I like being around boats and not big on standing at an entry control point and checking ID's (no offense BTDT).

Good luck.

MarineBM,

No offense taken. It all depends on what mission you want to do. (I don't stand at the gate anymore, I PLACE folks at the gate, then I drink coffee and check on them from time to time... Big Grin).

Again, BM will get you to a small boat station etc and allow you to do the SAR stuff.
