I am currently creating my packet for SRDC and am looking for direction on the narrative other than the generic "goals and objectives". I realize the next dates have yet to be announced - but I like to prepare in advance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Roman

Keep it simple, keep it genuine, and portray yourself as an asset to the CG. Treat this exercise very much like a job interview. Highlight your strengths.

Look at ways to tie in your civilian skills and/or accomplishments with the needs of the CG in general and your unit specifically (if you know your potential assignment).

If you haven't already researched the CG then do so immediately. Discuss possible billets with your recruiter then research those jobs as well. Again, build a case for the CG that you're an asset and worth the time they invest in you.

Goals and Objectives are important, the Coast Guard wants to know what you want to accomplish while in. Napkin hit the rest of it, especially knowing what the Coast Guard is all about.

The deer in the headlights won't look good to the oral board when they ask you what is Deepwater or Rescue 21 or what are the Coast Guard's core values. Just samples of questions they do ask.

Pick your brain for past leadership experiences, how you handled them etc.

Don't write fluff, but sell yourself. CPO Kalbach

Thank you for all your suggestions. I am currently a Marine Patrol Officer who is working on a Masters in Accounting so I am hoping to incorporate one or both of my areas in the Coast Guard.

Thank you,

Roman

I just submitted my package for 02-08. I found the narrative to be the hardest thing to complete, but I also used the references listed above as a jumping point. I went through several drafts before I had something succinct, yet thorough.

Its not about bragging about yourself, but you do have to "sell" your accomplishments.
