Hello,

I joined the CG Selected Reserves in spring from active duty. When does FOT give the reservists more drills? I keep hearing conflicting answers between fiscal year or your anniversary year. Thanks!

Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Nice avatar! GO BEARS!

With that said, SELRES members for the most part (there are some exceptions) get 48 drills every fiscal year (1 Oct to 30 Sep).

Your anniversary year establishes good years for retirement purposes. It runs from the day you enlisted to a year later (for example, 1 Jul to 30 Jun, or 1 Jan to 31 Dec). During your anniversary year, you need to accumulate 50 retirement points for a good year.

You automatically get 15 points a year for being a member of the SELRES and have 48 drill points and at least 12 ADT points available to you (sometimes up to 14 ADT days for travel days to and from a "C" school, etc.).

There are certain SELRES billets that may be receiving more than 48 drills a year (such as at PSUs). There may be others.

Good luck!

I would also add that there are several ways to get 'extra' drills, especially in your first year.

Master Chief,

Can you please explain? I know certain rates and units are authorized 60 a year but that only applies to them. I'm not interested in accumulating more, just very curious. I'm not the strongest with reserve stuff. Thanks!

One way to accrue more "points" is to take correspondence courses. Navruls will get you 26 points.

And once you drill out, which is using all your drills (48 a year...which is 24 days) in a year, you can still drill without pay. Meaning earning points but no pay. If you're local to your unit, this might not be a hardship and could be a way to continue to work on PQS's...

I believe that in some years we have also been allowed to do an extra 4 drills towards the end of the FY. Not to mention that your unit can request an extra 12 days of ADT from your District. YMMV, I am not churning the rumor mill, but you may want to look into these if you have interest.

If you study and test well, look at the MK series of EOCT's. "Someone" wrote a very good study guide or two for MK tests that have been posted somewhere on the internet. In my opinion, they are worth taking just for the relatively high point values. You want to rack those retirement points up as you go because the end of the line will come quicker than you think. And you may learn something along the way.....bonus! You don't have to be an MK to take the tests. But you get the points just the same. Good luck. IBO

Sorry for the delay, I just stumbled upon this again. Look at the RPM, especially the parts about different types of duty. Remembering that ADT and IDT are for TRAINING, most of the reasons are geared towards extra training needed. Like say you need a new qual, etc.
