I have recently found an old ship similar to what I served on in my younger days. I could see here tied to a pier colleting rust. I stood there thinking of her glory days when she was well maintained and sailed strong. I could imagine the ship looking at me, now old and out of shape thinking the same thing.

Then I wrote this down and I wanted to share it with all of the old sea dogs.

The old ship

There’s the old ship
Built for war
And she has seen her battles

They sailed her with pride
The crew belonged to her
And her to the crew

Together on the sea they worked
The crew would keep her afloat
And she would bring them home

Now her time has past
She sits in a harbor
Starting to rust

Silent engine room
Her boilers are cold
Never to be heated again

Even if they were to be fired
She could never keep up
With the modern day fleet

Old and forgotten, tied to a pier
Waiting for the day to be sold
For her pounds of scrap steel

Thanks for the post, it was really enjoyable reading.

I would recommend/request you also post this on/in the 'General Discussions' forum on the 'Curmudgeon' board.
