During the 68 Tet Offensive i was a squad leader with the first infantry div.. We were pulled down outside the city of Saigon and told to get ready to be hit. we choppered in and now enemy. dug in and still no enemy. move out the next day toward Saigon and we were walked right into a battlion size ambush. we had been in many firefights and ambushes before but nothing like this. after all was done, i had lost 6 men killed in my squad, one missing who was found later wounded. we lost so many men that we were choppered out of there before dark back to our div. base camp to be refitted and sent back. the Tet is like a bad wreck that your the only one who walked away from and it never goes away.
