I was assigned to the 586th Singal Co. to support the First Calvary Division at AnKhe. Arrived in Aug 65, landed at QiNong, travelled up route 19 to AnKhe and setup. These were the early days. It was miserable, infrastructure was almost nil. We were at the valley of HocKong Mountain. Anyone serve during these early years with in support or with the 1st Calvary Division? got to ChuLai 10/65, they were still using "Jato-assist" on the aircraft, 'cause the airstrip wasn't complete. got to 3rd batt. 7th Marines, had the shiets for it seemed like a month, the closest sheiter to our tent was a 2-holer next to a dirt road, hole in the ground and a box with two holes cut out of it, no cover on it.

I don't remember that two holer, I was up in the hills to the north of the Battalion area with 1st Plt, Kilo. I arrived the day we did Black Farret and they issued me a rifle and 782 gear and pushed me onto a helo with my new squad. What a way to join the team!
