Just got back from MEPS and I wanted to choose 19K(M1 Armor Crewman) as my MOS but upon my request, they told me there were no openings for 19K and I could not get that job anyways because there is a maximum height requirement of 6'2in. but I'm 6'3in. So then I chose my MOS to 19D (Cavalry Scout) because it sounds pretty bada** too. Can anyone give me some insight on 19D's jobs/duties? I'm really interested. Thanks in advance!

19D, Cavalry Scout. A highly trained, highly motivated, cocky, arrogant, tough, PTing son of a ***** with a natural talent in all types of warfare. Often the point of jealousy for all pogue MOSs.

*enjoy basic

Pay close attention in the "Cover and concealment" and "Hull defilade" training, something the guys in the above picture are not practicing very well - -

And don't point your rifle at or near you own foot - -

Unlike the OP, I'm BEGGING to go 19D. I'm hearing it's getting tougher to get as an MOS though, but I'm willing to be patient to get it, or go tomorrow if necessary.
Any ideas what to expect in AIT at Knox? PT through the roof, I'm guessing, lots of concealment/field exercise training, etc. My bro just did 18X, any ideas how it compares/contrasts, so I can discuss it with him (when he gets out of holding anyway)

Alright look man,
Im not complaining. I just wanted a certain MOS that I was really interested in but Cavalry Scout is lookin pretty bada** too. I have already reserved it as my job in a few months. I am willing to confront and accomplish any task that is requested to me. Therefore, I am actually excited and looking towards training and serving underneath this title, as Cavalry Scout, for the United States Army and for this country.

I graduated 09Jul09. I was 1st platoon, A Trp, 5-15 Cav. It was the most intense 16 weeks I could ever have imagined. You will do lots of PT. You will learn to respect the "front lean and rest." You will do your time in the pit. There will be days when you think that your body could not possibly exert another seconds worth of energy and that at any moment even the energy required to breathe and make your heart beat will be too much. You will then look to your left and right, and your gaze will meet that of your battle buddies who feel the exact same way. Its at that moment that you crack a slight smile, wipe the mud off of your eyepro and remember what you are there for. To be a g** d***** Cavalry Scout. That's when you lift your tired, aching body off the ground, shrug a little bit to get your IBAS seated right, and you finish whatever mission you've been given.

IF YOU AIN'T CAV!!!

Since a lot of people are joining right now, the Army isn't really having any problems filling slots. Because of this, bonuses aren't as high as they were in the more recent past. I got $5,000 for 5 yrs, signing on as an 18x. It wasn't really a concern for me, I would've signed up with no bonus. Although, $1k does seem quite low, I met a guy at MEPS who signed on as a 19D and received $5,000 for 4 yrs.
