I am joining the ARNG I chose 19D as my MOS. I will be comimg back as an E5. I was an E6 , a waiver will take too long and Sgt was always a better rank I think. My question is, how will the MOS training, considering my prior service? Will I be in with PVTS or with NCOs? Either way is fine. How long is training in my circumstance? Thanks for any feedback.
We had a prior service marine come in as an E-5 In my unit. There was never anything but gentlemanly respect. The National Guard isnt anything like the regular Army, or what I assume the marines are like.
I have no doubt that the unit and I will gel. My questions were concerning MOS training for Cav Scouts. Physically, no problem. Land navigation will be a challenge. Compasses were not my friend. GPS were my friend.
I had a former Marine as a DS/TI at the Armor School when I was training as a Recon/Scout. His professionalism and attention to detail was better than all the rest, and he was a stickler for topnotch physical fitness, which I could savy...
Recon/Scout required top knowledge in all weapons, munitions, explosives, mines, land navigation, recon, radio reporting, artillery/air strike commo, out front leadership, sneak and peek, shoot and maneuver (both on foot and in vehicles), etc..
If you are willing to learn deeply, then lead from the front and by example, putting your people first and yourself second, you'll do just fine - -

Well not a 19D but I can partly answer the question, from what I learned as MOD and observations on a 11 series MOSQ cycle, this is across the board for Army MOSQ training in general:
Prior service are given additional privileges that IET soldiers do not have. You might be given a brief by your training company 1SGT or DS what they don't want to see you do around the IET soldiers (you definitely will be told) with the additional privileges they will give to you.
The DS will leave you alone if your squared away. However, Corporal punishment is what it is and if your going to be punished at times for what someone else did.
Thank you, that helped alot. I am not looking for different treatment. But I understand for the instructors/NCOs it has to be a unique situation when dealing with prior service SNCOs/NCOs. PT, breaking your ***, good training, no cell phones, no outside news, and shooting alot of weapons sounds like a vacation to me.

Also, the treatment at the reception stations are a little different then the training unit. So don't get disillusioned there.
Thats always been the case since I was in way back in the 1980's. The NCO's at reception stations for TRADOC posts really do not have much time for enforcing discipline.....it's all stick and move, sit and wait, scheduling. So you might get some disrespect there and have to grit your teeth.
Training companies have time to be more professional and to focus on the IET soldiers more.
You might just got to a ARNG reclass school instead of 19D OSUT at Knox. I went to 1/204TH in Boise, Idaho for MOS-T. There are a few other places to go aswell.
