I leave jan 19th for Tanker school and I'm wondering what to look forward to. I've looked online, in books, but still no up-to-date examples of this Tanker lifestyle. DEPLOYMENTS, i've heard that some Tankers wont even mount-up on their tours to afghanistan. So, with that is there ANYBODY in action right now with stories, advice, and tips on what it's like to be a Tanker in the situations we are with right now? SOMEONE PLEASE FILL ME IN. thanks in advance.

Well, you get up in the morning and do PT. While running, you sing some lame cadences and wish Armor had cool ones, like the Infantry does.

After PT you go back to the barracks, wash up, have breakfast then head to the Motor Pool. Then work on your tank until noon. During this entire time, you daydream about how glorious it would be if you were in the Infantry.

Around noon, you go to chow. After chow, back to the Motor Pool. Again, you spend all afternoon turning wrenches and getting filthy, wishing your were a Grunt.

About 1700, you knock off for the day. Go to chow, then have free time until you go to bed. Once asleep, you spend all night, dreaming of being in the Infantry.

That is the life of a Tanker. Big Grin

Being a tanker is alot like any other combat arms job. Gumby had it about right, eccept for the grunt stuff. 5pm was actually an early quitting time. Dont expect that too often. plan on working about every other weekend and doing lots of 24 hour duty. On average, you will work 60-75 hours a week if not more.
