Hi everyone i'm here researching and getting self educated before I go sit down with a recruiter. Right now I am working at JFK airport as a GSE mechanic. The pay is decent but doing the same thing day in and day out bores me. So I have decided to do something I have been wanting to do since senior year in H.S. Anyways after some researching and stuff I have decided the ARMY best suites me. As far as MOS's so far the one to catch my attention the most is Cavalry Scout. I would like to ask what is the day to day life of a scout who is Airborne qualified. As far as training, base assignments, deployments, and off time.

Any questions? Or did you want the sugar-coated version?

What you are looking at is what 11Deltas are doing in Afghanistan right now. You train at Ft. Knox in Light Armor and Recon/Infantry tactics. In peacetime, you would be deployed/stationed where ever there are heavy armor (tank) units to act as their "eyes and ears" out front, looking for the enemy and routes to get at him for the tanks and mech infantry to attack. I was 11Delta and was deployed to Germany along the old Iron Curtain. Most of my buddies from Basic and AIT ended up in Vietnam dodging ambushes and command-detonated mines in jungles so thick they couldn't see past the end of their .50 Cals on their ACAVs...

Today's 11Deltas are doing EXACTLY the same thing, only in the city streets of Iraq and the desert mountain passes of Afghanistan - so look at the pictures closely. Though there are vehicles and helicopters around, 11Deltas are just as often the guys with boots or bellies on the ground...

11 deltas aren't doing $h1t...Because they don't exist.
19 Deltas do the things you mentioned above, and a whole lot more.

The change of a number makes a difference? That "9" won't stop a slug any sooner than a "1" would. Number quibbling is a pencil-pusher's game.

A whole bunch of us went through Disney Barracks at Knox before your Dad met yer Mom - - 11Deltas were getting killed about 100 a month at the time in Nam . . . Doesn't hurt to show a little respect - -

It doesn't hurt to have a little current knowlege either.
Don't confuse a correction with lack of respect. Don't assume that I never saw action. Don't assume that you know when my parents met. Don't assume that your age compared to mine or the time period you served in makes you a "better Soldier" than any one else.

I have a habit of judging people by their language and the amount of respect they show to others. Your language and attitude didn't do well for an MOS we both share, despite some pencil pusher's label change. People that sound off just to be heard don't carry much weight...

It's a bad habit.
My language was perfect...You just didn't like what I said.
You obviously perceive my disagreement with your mis-information as a lack of respect.
It is absurd for you to think that my "attitude" has any effect on our MOS.

It is possible that you might go to a unit on jump status. It is possible that you won't. 101st is NOT on jump status. They are Airmobile...NOT Airborne(with a few exceptions).
The 82nd is Airborne.
