Is anyone currently stationed at Ft. Bliss with the 1st AD? My son just graduated from 19K OSUT and is headed there. I know the 1st AD is currently in Germany/Iraq and is scheduled to move to Bliss sometime in 2007. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to what he can expect when he gets to Bliss next week.

It's my understanding 1ID will be at Bliss but that could be a misunderstanding.

The 1ID will be going to Riley (if they aren't there already). The 1AD will be going to Bliss. The move will happen shortly after the start of 2007 when the 1st BCT of the 1AD redeploys back tp Germany from Iraq.

Interesting, the 7th ATC commanding GEN just announced that the 1AD units in Baumholder and Schweinfurt will be here for the next 3 to 7 years. |

My neighbor's son is on the staff of the 1st BCT of the 1AD and the last word he had was that the 1AD was going to Bliss after the 1bct returnewd to Germany from Iraq. Last summer on the Army's website they showed the 1AD going to Bliss and only a Stryker Brigade and the 173rd Airborne Brigade remaining in Europe. Maybe the Army has recently made some changes.

I work in Graf about 1 KM from GEN Hertlig's office and I can say without hesitation that they're making changes on an hourly basis. I can't tell you how many different rumors I've heard about where and when a certian units is or is not going. then hear the complete opposite a few days later. Even the "official" announcements are unrealiable. The more I think about it though I now do believe it's 1AD being reflagged at Bliss. |

1 BCT of 1AD is to begin moving in June; however, as IMG states, "...even official announcements are unreliable" and subject to change. If 1AD holds to BRAC, it's supposed to be a physical move, not a reflagging...but then, it's the Army.

So does this mean the 4BCT, 1CD will be moving back to Ft.Hood from Ft.Bliss? If the 1AD is at Bliss, why would a Brigade from 1CD be needed there?

Which rumor you want to hear? In the last two months I've heard they will deactivate, deploy "south", deploy "west", go to gunnery, deploy while their families are "deployed" all at the same time frame. To be honest with you though if I did know the answer I wouldn't announce it here. |

It would be safe to assume to not assume anything! Prepare to go to Germany. That's the best option here!

Parent,
If your son's orders take him to Baumholder, then he's going to somewhere in Germany with 1AD, if they change before then to some other reception battalion, then he'll go there. The orders dictate, not what should be. And if he is suppose to go to Bliss when/should they uphold the BRAC which is suppose to be complete by '09, then he may get re-assigned locally or a free trip to Germany. I was assigned to a unit during transition recently, and it was a friggin mess. For a while my EPMD messages [kind of like a warno for orders] were saying I was going to Italy, then to Bamberg, Germany for up until about two weeks and got on a plane to Germany, they changed to Schweinfurt Germany assigning me to a unit that wouldn't exist for about another month after my report date. It'll be a little confusing for your boy - it was a little confusing for me, and I'm an NCO, but just tell your little man to roll with the punches and everything will be all right. I hear 1AD is a straight place for tankers. MG - no 1AD in Schweinfurt, just 1ID, mainly 2nd BCT who isn't home, just us CAV guys. |

Yeah thanks, I just checked up on that and your of course right. I wasn't aware they reflagged Schweinfurt already. I knew they went "motorized" but lost track of the changes up there. I am now in Baumholder. I can tell you that these guys 1AD will be here for quite a while still. |

Yeah, that doesn't really surprise me. A war-time BRAC is probably one of the dumbest decisions to come out of this war. Particularly when they decided by some skewed scoring logic that Dewit was a better hospital than Walter Reed, therefore they should close down WAMC. I sat in the waiting room at Dewitt for an hour while my son had a 104 temperature before I said "screw you" and went to Bethesda where I was seen immediately.

After the cuts from the Clinton administration, BRAC is stupid anyway, war or not...we should be building instead of taking apart. Mark |

Or at least cross leveling. I do find it funny how so many "learned" folks suggested we needed another two divisions to accomplish our national defense strategy. It was shot down then. Istead we are going to stand up five new brigades. Which is almost the same as two divisions. |

Hahaha, Cross-level - tell me about it, MG2... avoiding an OPSEC mess, suffice to say we just got a platoon about three weeks before Stars and Stripes told us we're goin in early '07. Those privates are straight, though. Most of 'em have already done a year over at the off-the-street SF program and fell out for one reason or another. A little arrogant, but their battle drills are straight.
2 new divisions would be nice, but with all the re-flagging and moving crap going on, it'd be ten-fold to house an organic division. They'd have to call up old posts that are now reserve posts, but even still they'd probably be cramped. But if they can cram almost an entire BCT at Camp Ederle, save a squadron and a battalion, I suppose it's do-able. I'm more interested in seeing how they expect to man all this crap with numerous recruiting stations around not making mission. They could have an entire division of disgruntled activated IRRs, hahaha. That might actually be effective - can you imagine such unbridled, lethargic, and demotivated fury. They could have some cool name like 77th Defector Division. |

We used to have a hellva lot more. Germany housed almost eight divisions at one time. Knox isn't crowded either. It think Ord still has space but I really don't know. Drum had tanks at one time. Yakima training area has plenty of room. Its possible.

hey everyone. my boyfriend was just deployed to Baumholder on DEC 31, 2007. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about them (first AD) moving back to ft. bliss in march 2007 or if that is just a rumor?
