I think that it is obvious to us all that we have put young men & women who are willing to serve there country into the military, and without pressure or cohersion.

Given that, we have a great source of leads right in front of us. Most if not all your DEP's are 11s's or 12L's. You 11s DEPR's are a GREAT source of referrals, and YOU SHOULD be hanging out with these young men & women at school practically EVERYDAY.

They will introduce you to ALL of there friends, even ones they don't talk to. Get to know the High School student president, and vice president, get to know all the electees of all school (student) boards. Introduce yourself to teachers by leaving flyers and business cards in ther pigeon holes at school all of them have them, get to know the administrator, she'll even help you fill it. Create flyers or put in pigeon holes that relates to the specific field you are recruiting to, don't put a flyer on music in the math teachers hole if your looking for musicians, put your engineering and electrical field flyers & info in there.

counselors in my opinion are a waste of time, there NOT interested in what you have (in my experience) maybe I need help.

DEPR's WORK for us, they always bring in interested people and there committed to the cause.

That's good advice, I'm going to put that into action immediately.

I am a retired Navy Officer currently in my 5th year as a NJROTC Senior Instructor at a HS. When I was an enlisted (I Am an LDO/Mustang) I also did a tour of recruiting (which was marginaly successful). I have watched the various recruiters come and go and the best I have seen is a SFC from the NG. A former Navy E-5, he has a couple of advantages; older and more mature, the NG recruiting cmd is not that demanding as far sources are concerned (if you get a 3.0 PPR, they will not say more phone power); he is in location for a long time (4 years) and he never really needs to recruit. He spent the 1st year just helping out and I do not think the kids knew he was a recruiter. He coached the Raider team and went on MANY field trips as a chaperone. The parents loved him and before you knew it, the kids were running to him and asking him to put them in the NG. The parents would call and ask him for advice on colleges and other services and he would provide honest info. It is tough for other recruiters to emulate this type of recruiting but if they can it works well.

I sold the owners/managers of businesses that I had a group of quality individuals who needed jobs while they were in DEP. They had physicals, police checks, and didn't use dope.

The next thing I had was referrals from the min. wage wonks working those jobs looking for a career. When they shipped, I put another one there. I looked at it like a bank. Principal in, interest out.

And I could check with the owner/manager on how they were doing. One thing: fast food using grill and friers. Keep them away from the grill a month before ship date. Unhealed burns are a DQ.
