Congrats Chitown and welcome to the craft.

The best advice that I can give you is to finish your 3 degrees . You will be glad that you did. Each state is different. My state ( Tennessee)requires at least 28 days between each of the 3 degrees. I was initiated Dec 11,07, passed to fellow craft on Jan 26th 08, and raised to Master Mason on Mar 1st 08. Freemasonry is definately the best thing that I've ever done and something that I will always be proud to be a part of.

Having been initiated not too long ago myself, remember that all masons went through the same thing that you will be going through.Good luck and enjoy your travels. Let me know If I can help you in any way.

Bro. Greg McNeill

May I add my congratulations! I am more than glad to assist anyone who is interested in Masonry.

As far as what you should know: You should report to the lodge building, 20-30 minutes before the degree beginning. I promise you, that you will be treated at all times, with decorum and respect. There is no childish behavior or horseplay of any kind.

You will be among a society of friends. This is to be your first time in a tyled (members only) lodge. I consider the EA degree to be one of the most important.

I look forward to calling you "brother"!

One question I do have is what should i wear, i've been told 2 different things, 1 is kaki pants/polo shirt, other is dress pantsdress shirt and tie. Both said to NOT wear a jacket.

Both are not members of t he lodge i will be attending, so yeah i'm a bit confused any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks to both of you for your kind words and help you've already given!

Congratulations on taking the first step of your life long journey. You have received great advice here thus far and I really have nothing to add. On the dress code, I would advise asking the Brothers of the lodge you are joining. Each lodge has its own flavor and way of doing things. In my lodge we tell our candidates to show up in clean clothes, thats it. On the third degree we ask that they dress as if going to a big job interview. We are laid back though in regards to dress.

My lodge is laid back in regards to dress too. Most people in my lodge wear jeans and running shoes. Whatever the dress code in your lodge is you will want to follow. Definately wear a button down shirt, You will soon see why. Also at my lodge, the Worshipful Master is the only one allowed to wear a hat in the lodge, and he wears the hat of his choice. The things that you will do may seem foolish but it all really does have a purpose and will make sense as you learn. All 3 of your degrees should be most enjoyable evenings for you. Especially your 3rd degree.

Since today is the 22nd ... let me be the first to welcome our newly obligated Brother. Welcome to the Craft. As I tell everyone that comes through, you will only get out of Freemasonry what it is that you put into it.

Welcome again!!

Thanks for resurrecting this Soldierguy, i was actually looking for this thead.

I am being raised tomorrow June 23 2008, pretty excited about it, though unfortunately the lodge goes dark for july/aug so i'll i won't be able to attend a meeting until Sept.

Oh and i will be in Illinois from July 1-14th, anyone that's a member there let me know, and i'll stop by, it would be good to meet the people who helped me along the path.

Again thank you to everyone who helped me along with everything.

And coins? no coins have been mentioned, thanks for the thoughts though Smile
