Being a Mason for 25 years, and 15 of that in the military, I have met a lot of masons worldwide. My home jurisdiction of Michigan recognized PHA ten years ago and allows visitation with prior notice. I have found PHA lodges to be very proficient in their work and they understand the concept of universal Masonry.
I moved to Kentucky 4 years ago and saw bigotry in Lodge. It only takes one to cube a candidate or refuse a visit, so the local Lodges are very segregated. Such a shame, as I talk and have good Masonic intercourse with many PHA brothers here. I have found PHA Masons to actually live truer to the principals of Masonry than our white counterparts.
Just this spring the Kentucky Grand Master issued an edict forbidding disparaging words or action towards race, creed or nationality. I have great hope that this will lead to understanding and Masonic intercourse between all Masons here.
Just as the military has worked so hard to erase prejudice and bigotry, I have great hope that Masonry will someday rise up and live out it’s own creed.
Don’t give up brothers, live, talk and understand universal Masonry

I am Lodge 2 Philadelphia, Scottish Rite of Allentown, and Shriner of King of Prussia. I was Worshipful Master of Lodge 2 in 1997. My Lodge dates back to 1756. I joined in 1992, after Desert Storm. Grew up in the Appalachian Coal Patch of West Virginia and ran off for the Army the day after graduating high school. Unlike West Virginia, the rest of the world is very scared regarding religion or skin color. It sounded racist. I asked the Grand Master, who went to a historicaly black college (Cheney) and he changed it for me.

Prince Hall was a freeman from Boston. Pennsylvania accepted Prince Hall Masons after my tenure, by invitation. And I am not allowed to see Prince Hall without permission

I disregard that rule. I go where I want. Black Lodges are very interesting.

Most of the people I know from the Army are black. Been Army since 1971.

Yes we succeeded from Virginia and no we do not have sex with our mothers, sisters, or children.
