I arrived in Taji, Iraq, a couple of days ago. I am on a small camp, away from the main base. There is some Masonic activity on the main base. I am still waiting to hear from the grand Lodge of New York, about getting the charter to operate Land, Sea, and Air Lodge #1.

Good luck. However, you can still organize a craft club in the mean time. Don't hold your breath on something that may not materialize into reality given the years of prior effort placed in this endeavour. My .02 cents.

Dear Cemab4y,
I wanted to let you know that I wrote to GLofRI. To help Land,Sea and Air Lodge #1 about chartering your new Lodge. I did let them know that GLofNY is not helping you.
I did let them know that I thought that LSA was up and running. With the new problems about GlofNY. I need to have your contact information. Incase I or GLofRI need to get intouch with you.

Don't forget that the Prince Hall brethren have successfully formed tyled lodges in Iraq, plan on finding out where they meet and attend one if you can. In my humble Masonic opinion, a lodge is a lodge is a lodge and so is a brother Mason. My .02 cents of Masters wages.

P.S. - Sorry I missed you when you were in Indiana, but you were in Ft. Wayne and I am in Indy. Maybe next time brother.

Here at Taji, there is a working lodge. I have been invited to a MM degree on April 6. I am still working with the GL of New York. A new Grand Master of Masons in New York is taking office in May. To keep up with our lodge, and Masonry in Iraq, please visit my blog:

I have accepted a position with Sensor Technologies. I will attend a training conference in Huntsville ALA, during July and August, then back to Iraq.

I am very interested in continuing with Masonry in Iraq. I have been working with the GL of New York since December 2005, to get a lodge underway in Iraq, but the project has been on a freeze all this time.

There is a new Grand Master of Masons in New York, and I have been told that he is much more favorable towards issuing authorization for Land, Sea, and Air Lodge #1, to operate again.

Most people do not know that after 5 years of the US military presence in Iraq, and 130,000 troops currently in country, that there is not one working F&AM lodge anywhere in Iraq.

Wish me luck, I want to change this.
