I am currently enlisting in the Air force, I have 2 years of college experience where I have aquired a great interest in joining freemasons. I currently dont have any relitives who are masons but would like to have the opportunity to join this unique brotherhood after I enlist as of right now I am only 19. Is it possible to petition at a lodge while you are on active duty?
Yes, its is very possible to petition a lodge while you are on active duty.
The problem you might hit depends on where you are located. Here in Utah we waive the residency times for military members, but we cant waive the length of time you must have known your "first line signer" (both 6 months).
It is possible that where you are located has different time lengths or waivers available to active duty military. I would suggest contacting a lodge near you and finding out

Contact the Grand Lodge in the state where you reside and they should help, aid and assist you. For starters, you can use "Google" and type in "Grand Lodge for the state of - - - -). Good luck and keep us posted.
You can certainly petition freemasonry, while you are on active duty. I wish that I had been a Mason, when I was in the Air Force (1973-1978).
You will have to meet the requirements of the Grand Lodge in the state, where you petition (apply).
Some states have a minimum age of 21, Some require the petitioner to be 18 or older. Some states have a residency requirement, you must be resident in that state for some period of time. The age and residency requirements vary with each state, and some states have a "waiver" for active duty military.
You do not specify when you are enlisting. You could possibly begin the process, immediately, prior to enlisting. You can petition the lodge in your home town, (provided you meet the requirements). If you do not complete the entire process, you can suspend your degree work, and pick it up later, at your new location.
Send me a PM or email, and I will assist you in locating a lodge.
I am currently going into basic training in about 2 months so i dont think i would have time to actually get into the process, thats why i was asking if it was possible to join maybe when i get to my first duty station
Thats what I would suggest since you are leaving in a couple of months. Wait until you get to your 1st duty station, and like Bro. Terry said, check the grand lodge website in the state that you are going to.Understand though that your 1st few months at a new duty station right out of basic are gonna be busy with OJT, CDC,s, etc. Best of luck to you, and petition when you know that you are ready.
You can apply for masonry, immediately, right there in your home town. It will take some weeks for the machinery to turn. When you finish Basic Training, you can approach the lodge at your city where your training school is.
You can request the lodge there, to perform your ceremonial work as a "courtesy". Your membership will be with the lodge you petitioned.
