I was wondering what it takes to become a Freemason. I have always wanted to look into it but until recently life has had me doing other things. Now however I have seem to have found a period where I have lots of free time.

A little about myself.

I have a B.S. in Justice studies.

I joined the Georgia National Guard back in 2007

I am currently back in school working on a 2nd degree as I finish ROTC and should get my commission in a year and a half.

I am 24 years old. Currently in Statesboro GA.
.

I have been browsing the forums but still a little confused on what it takes. So I figured I would just ask. I am going to continue browsing the forums and learn what I can.

Edit: Do you have to know someone to try and join? As in do you have to get requested or can I just apply?

Contact the Grand Lodge of Georgia, or look at their website and approach the lodge nearest to where you live. Check out the website below:

Hope this helps. Good luck and keep us posted.

What does it take? Unfortunately, this is primarily a personal question, but for me, the answer runs as follows:

An interest in history.
An interest in the future.
An understanding of my wealth as a human being (not cash-value!!).
An understanding that no matter how my over-inflated ego things I am an uber-being, I am just a smelly human like everyone else - and that I NEED improvement.

That was pretty much it. The only things not mentioned were the basics - like being of appropriate age (which I was - in spades), being of good character (which I strive for - and usually achieve), and having the time to commit to trying to make myself a better man and a better human being.

But this is all personal - your mileage may vary.

I was told that to become a mason was to be "freeborn and well recommended" and you must believe in a supreme being.

All you have to do is ASK a Mason and you will be taking the right step. I entered in 1988 (wish it was sooner)after I had asked. It's been a pleasure since, with a bunch of great brethen. I was active duty then, and now retired from the military for 20 years. So go and ASK!

Roger that!
I joined after my father a WWII veteran passed away. It was when I was at dad's Masonic Memorial that I realized that my cousins and uncles were all Masons that I petitioned the fraternity.
My only regrets was not knowing sooner. I have since retired from the Army, but my lodge is my new unit of brethren that I consider my brothers and family.

Hooorah135,

"A Supreme Being" or GOD, Jesus and the Holy Ghost(Spirit)? There is ONLY ONE-IN-CHARGE! The "Trinity" all else are just "PAWNS IN THIS CHESS GAME"!

"Life is: You reap what you sow!!" "Go ahead make my day!!"

um, no, Bill.

In order to become a Mason, you must profess belief in a Supreme Being. that could be the Trinity, Allah, Yahweh, whatever. It is most assuredly NOT limited to only those who believe only in "GOD, Jesus and the Holy Ghost(Spirit)?"

Your right, there is only one "Supreme Being." Tell that to the Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and all others of different faiths.

There is one caviat to the issue of the game of chest and it goes like this, "At the end of the game all of the pieces goes back into the same box." Think about that for awhile, Hooah!
