Hi everyone I was refered to this page from another who told me this was a great place to get information about being a GM. I am joining the coast guard relatively soon and want to be involved in law enforcement (like many others). Being a Gm sounds the most interesting to me and I dont want to be stuck doing the deck work that a BM does. So what I am asking is what kind of oppurtunites does a Gm have in the coast guard? I know a little about MSST's but more info would be great. thanks

There's lots of grunt work that GM's do too. You will also learn that BM's are freqently involved in the LE work and that BM's have the widest range of duty stations available to them.
Hi guys this is the same person that posted the original post.
Grunt work is fine I like to work with my hands but from what I have heard I just think I would prefer to be a GM. Can anyone give me more info? what is a daily routine for a GM?
The best way to find out what you will enjoy the most is to go to the fleet as a nonrate. That will give you time to check out all the ratings before making a decision.
That is what I did, and I have loved every minute of being a GM. Like every rate it does have its ups and downs, but if you pick a rate that you will enjoy you wont care.
