i was looking into the OS rating, and i am doing my e-qips now.
Kind of hard to find two ratings more different than GM and OS. I'd suggest coming in as a non-rate, getting on a ship (WHEC or NSC) and that will give you the chance to see what the ratings do before committing yourself one way or the other.
Frankly, if I were to join today, I would go BM. Most variety of any rating in the CG.
What I enjoyed most about being a GM when I was in was the sheer variety of weapons you worked on. And I don't mean small arms. The Navy was a bit surprised when an FT and I showed up for the school on ASW torpedos....
As a prior FT, and with a few GM qual codes, you seem best suited for the "IS" rating with your language backround. I believe that the only reason the GM may be critical, feel free to correct me if I am wrong senior, is because of the stand up of the new "ME" rate. The GM rate should all but lock up after that.
I think it's cute you guys think my lowercase "I"s are a problem.
I've been to college. I do know grammar well for both english, spanish, and chinese. I was just in a hurry the day that I typed the original post. I did not think it would be such a deciding factor as to if I am qualified for this rate.
I just thought my GM line score was decent, but of course I have only seen my GM line score.
As far as going IS, I do not think a majority of my family would be ok with investigators showing up and asking questions. Some of them are drunks. Of course I do not drink because of this. But I think they would freak out about it.
Thanks for all the helpful responses, everyone!

even secret ratings get to have a Single Scope Background Investigation? or do all investigations have family interviews?
and to drslouha.. I wouldn't ever call a weapon cute. pink or otherwise. I just think it's a pretty funny how such a small thing would immediately be met with ridicule from senior respected professionals.
You have to realize that when you first come to a board like this no one knows a thing about you. Ergo, the WAY you post is one of the first things people here will notice. We have no way of knowing whether a poster is in a hurry, lazy or ignorant.

Ok. I understand what you mean. That makes alot of sense. I was not trying to be a jackass or anything.
-nor was I, "Skitchin". The idea behind my short comment was this: I (and my staff) try very hard to keep our students detail oriented. We also try to get the students to focus on some personal building skills as well. The days of folks hand writing things has all but fallen off the face of the earth...that is..accept for Gunner's Mates. You see, we still do a fair amount of writing in logs, reports and other such documents. With this, we STRONGLY encourage the students to pay attention to details. We screen emails prior to them being sent to a students new command, we have students re-write liberty chits when they look like they've been written with a caryon between the toes and we hand EPME assignments back when they're a mess as well. So, in short, we try to teach our folks to pay a bit more attention to details. Cleaning weapons or writing a note....pay more attention to details. My note was in no way ment to attack you personally, just to show you that there is nothing more important than "I"! Everyone (in my opinion) should live by that! Best of luck in your future choices. Regards, GMCS Wilbert
