Hey...have you gotten the word? The GM O/A has hit the streets!
The O/A (occupational Analysis)is:
-what drives your EPQ's
-which-
-is what drives what is taught in school (my personal interest).

So.....if you want to have buy in as to what gets taught at the School House......take the time to fill out the O/A. And please, if you don't understand what it's asking you....ask your supervisor!

In any event....please take the time to take the survey!! Help set the future for our Rating!

Regards,
GMCS Wilbert
School Chief, GM SChool

My counterpart may jump in here too, but I'll back up what the School Chief says. Participation in this survey is VITAL. One thing that may get your attention is that at the end of the survey, there is a "talk to the RFMC portion" where you can tell the RFMC anything that is on your mind. (The RFMC does no learn who said what)

Generally, the survey is directed to Active Duty members. Although the RFMC is greatly concerned about what the reserves do, the fact is that the reserves, for many reasons, would taint the accuracy of the survey results. Please don't think of that as a negative towards our reserve workforce. This survey is supposed to find out what AD GMs, in GM billets do on a regular basis. With the limited time and limited breadth of billets, reserves often do not function in 'full roles' on a regular basis. (ie, limited afloat duties, etc)

Just finished filling it out. I'm just a little concerned about the new ME rating though. Too many GM's are in what will become ME billits, I'm worried that the results won't be an accurate picture if the GM force after the ME's come fully on line. It might have been better to have waited.

CG_GunnersM8,

I was at the Task Validation Meeting that produced the questions for the OA. This issue was brought up at the meeting. Our RFMC told us the survey results could be filtered to reflect GMs in billets that might be reprogrammed into ME billets. Given, this the billet restructuring is still in the process, it will allow the people conducting the rating review to better analyze the results. Rest assured HQ is thinking ahead on this one...
This is just one more reason the more responses received across the board, the better the RFMC can update our EPQs and therefore update training requirements which will hopefully create more knowledgeable Gunners Mates for our current world of work.

Master Chief,

It would seem all too true regarding reserve GMs not functioning in 'full roles". I for one would love to be trained up to augment any GM billet cutter or otherwise but that wouldnt be very cost effective and is a topic for another post.

Thanks for response,
GM2 Gardner

GM2 Gardner,
If you want to be all trained up, I have a couple of GM2 and several GM3 vacant positions available for a possible integration. If you are interested send me an email, Douglas.l.winstein@uscg.mil or call me 202-493-1265.
