the hardest thing for me was the Magazine sprinklers and ammo compatibility because i never would think that anybody memorized that info my whole career i was thought to look it up. and who's got lot cards? do they even make those things? i don't even have ROLMS i use OIS. anyway. thats just me.
Thankfully I did not have to sit this year, but in response...
I think there was only one or two magazine questions last year, thank god.
Last year I think there was only like two capability questions, however the year before there was like seven or eight. I had that thing memorized only to be disappointed with two questions. I had come up with a rhyme to remember them.
As for the LOT cards, I believe most stations still maintain them since they are not direct reporters. As a Group GM, you should still have knowledge about them if you are requiring your units to maintain them. I don't know about obtaining them. Back in my group days, once they were gone we did not order any, however I had created a exact replica on the computer and just emailed it to the units and told them to print them out.
As for OIS, you are one step ahead of the game. I am sure next year most of the ROLMS questions will be transferred to OIS, once it is integrated fleet wide. If not, challenge it.
I wish you luck. You never know, only the cut will tell, you may be surprised.
there where like 7 or 8 sprinkler questions. that did murder me the last time i saw a sprinkler was on 1996 after that was wpb's until 2002 and all they have is a rinky dinky valve on the bridge. as for the cards i do have electronic ones but never though about them. i guess i will have to memorize the effective range and muzzle velocity of every round and weapon we use. so if i want to pass i should start studying tomorrow. whats that rhyme for the ammo i really want to hear that.
I’d like to input my 2 cents if I can. From someone that had to take SWE from pay grade E-4. Although I did not take this SWE but from what I’m hearing it sounds like the tests we took “back in the day”. Many questions were out on left field and one had to ask why, if I need to know I’ll look it up. SWE questions are selected by the writer and often times his/her experience plays a role. EPME questions are simple in that the information is located within the EPME study guide. For GM questions there are a plethora of references. So for future tests study all the material pertaining to GM. Tip: Do not throw away them old GM2/GM1 Course Material. They have a lot of good information minus the torpedo tubes, ha! Don’t be disappointed; remember that you are competing against the people that took the same test. As stated in the SWE Process page(http://www.uscg.mil/hq/tcpet/tpf/SWE/Swe2-info-SWEProcess.shtm), the exam is graded on a curve. Good luck to everyone that participated.
Nice to see an old face pop in here. Congrats on making the cut for Master Chief and your new assignment as our Rating Force Master Chief. Side note, I miss getting those informational emails you used to send out, what happened.
Usually, for me at least, with these kind of tests, if I think I did bad, I actually did pretty well and vice versa. What seperates the men from the boys is the epme. The hardest part of the servicewide is waiting for the results! Good luck to all.
