I just recently got married to a OS in the coast guard, and I transfer next year. I know I will be doing a dream sheet soon so I am wondering what I need to do different. I am not sure on how this process works or what to expect, and I am not getting much help from people I have asked. Thanks ahead of time to anybody that can help.

Oh and I forgot to mention she still has 3 years left at current duty station. I know I am going to get some jokes about the blue on blue but I couldn't help it I met her without even knowing she was in the CG.

Actually, you do nothing different than a single E-5 or an E-5 married to a civilian would do.

When you sit down with your Chief and go over your IDP (every six months), discuss your career intentions, how those might affect your long term military goals/plans and how to work your long & short term family plans into that.

I thought you can try to get station together and you have to inform the detailer?

Young guns, you are married to another CG member you should make yourself intimately familiar with Section 4.A.8 of the Personnel Manual COMDTINST M1000.6 (series)

Opening Section of 4.A.8
General
This assignment policy offers married active duty members the opportunity to
collocate or reside jointly whenever possible. Affected couples must realize the
Service may not be able to collocate them throughout their military careers
and
should allow some separation for professional development while meeting Service
needs. This article assumes married couples want to live together throughout their
Service careers.

Congratulations and good luck.

Thank you is there anything else I need to do like let the detailer know ahead of time. I heard that sometimes the detailer can give you certain picks in these cases?

You let the detailer know as a part of your ADC your Command Chief(s) should also be aware. You both need to read the PERSMAN so you are clear on the rules.

Sometimes staying together means going to less desirable places just to be together. It all depends on what is important to you being together or being somewhere.

And the operative phrase is " the Service may not be able to collocate "

The needs of the service are the needs of the service.

Lots of good and accurate information here. When you craft your e-resume the first thing you need to put in your remarks block is you are a COLO and list her name and EMPLID as well as stating you want to be colocated. Your picks must support this statement and I will work with her AO. Since she has 3 years remaining, depending on the location you are trying to go to, this may not be possible. COLO's do not get special choices or get to move up in the priority system. If you are a priority 3 and she is a priority 5, you would be using your priority to get located in the area she would be getting PCSed to. You should send me an email with more details and I can give you more individualized information. The information above is general and applies to all COLOs.
