Fellow sailors. I'm expecting an AY10 transfer to a 110, and I'm trying to prepare myself as best I can. I've yet to attend MK38 school, but that is another thing I'd like to be prepared for. I've heard too many unfortunate stories regarding 110's, and I'd like to make sure I represent our rate the best I possibly can.

So, for all that have floated on a 110 for a tour or two, I'm requesting some feedback as you all see fit. Whether it pertain to tips/trick, pubs to brush up on, sea stories, MK38 info, PMS advice, or anything at all; I'm all ears (or rather eye's).

-Josh

I would recommend brushing up on the ordnance manual and saving the below link to your favorites. This link will assist you in preparing for your OTI, provide you an invaluable resource for finding pubs, PMS items, and several other things that will help make you successful. http://cgweb.elcbalt.uscg.mil/combatsys/combatsys.asp If you need further assistance send me an email or you can contact SFLC DD-Oakland ( MLCP ).

-I would reccomend contacting GM1 Justin Aldridge. He just finished a very successful tour on board a 110' and could sure shed some first hand info. Tell him I sent ya!
Good luck!

My husband is the GM1 onboard CGC Nantucket. He said he'd be more than willing to answer any questions you have.

UndrwyGM,

I am stationed aboard 110' on the East Coast. My advice would be that once you find out what PB you are going to be reporting to, is write an e-mail to the BM1(your supervisor) asking what duties you will be standing. More than likely you will be a QMOW, Inport OOD, and LEPO. The biggest thing i would advise you to do for your upcoming tour and future tours is to always gain good working relationships wiht other GM's thoughout your carrer because being on a PB you will be relying on ohter GM's to help you out with work/advice. Contacting your next unit will be a major plus.

Fireman5756,

Great advice. I couldn't agree more regarding keeping a great working environment with fellow GM's.

Good copy on contacting the BM1 aboard my PB. Showing initiative to my future 'boat boss' probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Again, I appreciate all posts. Thanks for the help.
