Aggravated the sciatica a bit so, if it's all the same to you, I'll just sit here and suffer! Frown

What really sucks (you probably picked up on this on another post) I had to take my elderly Father to the VAMC two weeks ago (visited him yesterday) for what may prove to be final stage Hospice and, if they called me right now, I'd have all I could do to answer the phone much less drive over there (over an hour away)!

Distance and time wise, that's not bad compared to some; I know a lot of vets that have to travel 4-6 hours to get to their nearest clinic, much less Med Center, but I honestly doubt that I could even get in the van!

This TRULY sux! He's in good hands (mostly), but they ain't family!

Reoccuring fracture?

In Boot, I discovered that I had a stress fracture in my right leg, but not until I completely let go as a break during a long session in "the pit." Followed that up with Achillies-tendonitis in the right ankle, and then got it in the left while in the field in Korea while in the FMF!

Bad weather still makes all of that flare up (built-in barometer), but I consider them "BTDT" badges! Big Grin

Might as well, they ain't gonna go away if I complain, will they? Curse

K.J. sorry about your dad big guy.

It sounds like this gettin' old stuff ain't for wimps don't it.

When I run down the list of what's wrong, I want to go out and hire some body to follow me around with a wheelbarrow and pick up what falls off and glue it back on later!!

Sit back and conserve, that's about all you can do sciatica bites the big one my back is shot and that is ONE of the side effects from time to time. It is NOT fun!!

You are now, officially, on my cares and concern list, as well as your dad. We will keep you both in our hearts and also in the forefront in our concerns.

Be well friend, Take heart from the rest of your loving family.............Bruce, Laura, Carly.

Too funny, and all too true!

As children we fear pain so much that we yelp before anything happens, and with advancing age, we glance down to see our finger laying on the floor, sigh, pick it up and wonder: "Now where did I leave the Krazy-glue?" Big Grin

I thank you my friend, but fortunately (or not) my wife has some pretty good pain-killers (Non-operable tumor (benign, fortunately) on a nerve bundle at mid-spine); I take one or two of those and, while the pain doesn't really go away, you can hit me with a 2x4 and I won't care a bit! Dvlish

Ah, a time out thread, eh?

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson:

"Crazy? Don't mind if I do...."
"Blahrrersdhdfghlstjhgretwayisagasdhgspppptt"

Ah!
That was therapeutic.

Something from Mad Magazine, circa 1972:

quote:
9:00 - I enter the offices of MAD Magazine and I am given L.S.D. on a sugar cube which I put into my coffee and drink.

9:06 - My stomach gurgles and my throat tightens. I never use sugar in my coffee!

9:18 - A blood-curdling scream pierces the air. I hear humanity crying out in anguish...suffering pain...intense pain!
Is it my first HALLUCINATION?

9:20 - NO!! It is the Publisher of MAD - Bill Gaines - writing a check! It is the same sound I hear every payday!

9:35 - I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THE DRUG WILL HAVE NO EFFECT WHATSOEVERY! HERE IT IS - THIRTY-FIVE MINUTES AFTER GOOBLING, AND NOTHING IS FURNING!

9:53 - THE PUBLICHER OF MAD, ADOLPH HITLER, ENTERS THE ROOM AND ASKS ME IF I AM K.O.? I TELL HIM I'M RASPBERRIES! ON THE WAY OUT, SHE STABS MY TEDDY BEAR! ON PURPOSE!! ON PORPOISE!! SOMETHING IS FISHY!!!

9:76 - STILL NO EFFECK! MY SKIN IS ON TOO TIGHT! LOUSY TAILOR! LOUSY BURTON! I RIP EVERYTHING OFF!!

10:10:10 THE TORTISE IS RACING THE HAIR UNDER MY ARMS! IT'S AN ARMS RACE!!!

10:369 HEY! TURN OFF THOSE FLASHING BRIGHT LICE!

1492 I STILL FEEL FINE

LOVE ***** UZE *YOUR* ZIPPER* CODE!
CURB*** YER KAR!

112:30 THE PLUBISHER OF MUD, HUGH HEFFER, TAPS ME ON THE BROCCOLI -

90:76 I MAKE OUT SHAPES IN THE ROOM A DESK - A LAMP - A STAGECOACH - A PHUNG

1:15 - PEOPLE ARE STAIRING AT ME! I'M A STAIR-CASE! I TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT SOME FUNNY THINGS HAVE HAPPENED TO MY. BUT IT'S NO.

1:30 - EVERYTHING IS BECOMING EXTREMELY CLEAR! BUT IS IT REALITY? DO I REALLY LIVE? OR DO I JUST EXIST IN A CHINGE OF MY BLUK?

1:45 - WHAT IS NOT? AND WHY, IF WE, DO WE? OF COURSE!

2:00 - A blood-curdling scream pierces the air. I hear humanity crying out in anguish...suffering pain...intense pain!
IS IT AN HALLUCINATION AT LAST??

2:03 - NO!! It is the Publisher of MAD - Bill Gaines - writing another check!

2:05 - Everything is back to normal.

36-years later, and it still makes me smile! Big Grin

I just knew if I phrased the Google correctly, I'd find it again!

With apologies to my fellow poster buddies, my time-out is sometimes called ‘meditation’ or even ‘prayer’… (I believe in “giving thanks” – it promotes serotonins and endorphins in the brain and makes you feel better and relaxed – try it sometime, it really works! You don’t have to direct it towards anything… just use it in your mind. Whiskey helps, too.)

Sometime I am very silent, starring off into space contemplating ‘nothing’. My wife will ask me, “Do you want to be alone?” I will continue to stare and answer, in all sincerity, “I am alone.”

Peace, ahhh, the wonderful peace of a ‘mental time out’.

One of my favorite cartoons is by Gahan Wilson (of Playboy mag. fame). There are three Buddhist monks sitting meditating, two young novices and a teacher. One of the young novices says “What’s next?” The teacher opens one eye and says “What do you mean, ‘What’s next?’ this is it!”

If you are at peace then you are blessed..The ones leaving us are always more worried about us than they are themselves. We give them heart knowing we will be okay...It still hurts but we get through it...Peace stay with you!
