The Hall of Shame 2008
The World’s Ten Worst Persecutors of Christians INTRODUCTION Welcome to ICC's annual Hall of Shame report. The Hall of Shame is our list of the world's 10 worst persecutors of Christians based on news reports from the previous year. We publish this annual report to bring attention to the plight of persecuted Christians around the globe. While ICC believes in religious freedom for all religions, our mission is especially to help Christians. There are more than 200 million Christians worldwide who live in countries where there is overt social or governmental anti-Christian hostility. This hostility is expressed in various forms, from harassment, job discrimination, and imprisonment, to rape, torture, and assassination. Even though Christians are one of the largest religious groups persecuted for their faith, their plight is almost entirely ignored by the mainstream media. It is alarming that a human rights issue of this magnitude is so often ignored. In the period covered by this report (December 2006 - December 31, 2007), Christians continued to experience severe persecution for their faith on an alarming scale. Several trends of note were: 1. A crackdown on house churches in China in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics, 2. A continuing campaign by radical Muslims to exterminate Christians from Iraq, and 3. An escalation of radical Hindu attacks against Christians in India, which culminated at the very end of 2007 with a series of mob attacks on Christians villages in the state of Orissa. We have changed the layout of this year’s report in an attempt to help readers feel the distress that these Christians face. For each country, we have included a brief introduction, a section that highlights a recent story or two of Christian persecution, a brief analysis of current issues, a look to the future, and a list of ways that concerned individuals can help. Also included for each country is a chart that shows four things: the most common source of persecution, the number of Christians in that country who are affected, the intensity of the persecution, and whether persecution intensified, relaxed, or remained static during the year. It is our hope that this Hall of Shame report will help motivate persecuting countries and leaders to take concrete action to uphold religious freedom for all their citizens. In the meantime, we hope that this report will be a useful tool for policymakers and fellow advocates to put even greater pressure on those countries that continue to flagrantly violate the most fundamental human right of religious liberty. If you define "Christian Believers" as those who believe in the exact same version of Christianity you personally believe in (for example, if you are a Roman Catholic you might believe that all Roman Catholics are "Christian Believers" and everyone else is not a "Christian Believer" - or if you are an independant Evangelical Fundamentalist church you might believe that all the members of your individual church are "Christian Believers" and everyone else is not a "Christian Believer"), than you probably believe that no one in the United States is persecuted for their religious beliefs - except possibly those who believe in the exact same version of Christianity you personally believe in. I, however, have personally seen and experienced otherwise. The persecution may not be backed up by the civil legal authorities - but it occurs. For example, I briefly lived in a small town in Colorado in the 1980's. There was only one Girl Scout troop in the town, headquartered in the town's Southern Baptist Church. If a girl whose family attended the local Methodist Church wished to join the Girl Scout Troop, she was denied membership - unless her family left the Methodist Church and joined the Southern Baptist Church. Of course - you might say "that's not persecution based on religion" - but I believe that would indicate that your head is firmly embedded in the sand like the proverbial ostrich. |

FIGHTDIRECTOR;
Your observation of "persecution" is valid and one I have seen more than once and in many places. I would suggest though, that your description of where their head is at, is wrong.......They may have their heads firmly embedded, but it is not sand in which they are so encased!! T |

I assume the question is referred to me, based on the question's context. Wow! That reminds me so much of "Munity On The Bounty" with Charles Laughton as Captain Bligh speaking to Clark Gable: "Mr. Christian..." Specifically, Maybell, Colorado (northwestern corner of the state in Moffett County on U.S. Route 40 between the towns of Craig, Colorado and Dinosaur, Colorado). It's map coordinates are 40°31′02″N, 108°05′10″W. Would you like the address of the Baptist church |

Every Christian Denomination believes their teachings are the True teaching. It's unfortunate to see or hear of conflicts stemming from it. I believe however, Our Lord Jesus Christ will segregate the True followers from the rest...This is my humble opinion.

Blessings ohana10,
I agree but not as an opinion but as a declaration from Our Lord in scripture. Matthew 25:31-33 31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. I don't suppose it is possible that something might have changed in the last 20 years, is it? Go back and check again, Tiger - how old is that Troop? My casual search was unable to turn up a Troop web page, and I'm not interested enough to write them and ask. Maybe someone else is. If that IS a new troop, that may merely make Fightdirector's point even more strongly - it is possible that BOTH troops now are solely for their own sect's children. |

Is that Girl Scout Troop 201 in the year of Our Lord 2008, or is that in the years that I lived there?
Possibly the troop in 2008 has repented of their sins and have changed their previous policy...if so, good for them. |

i do not know if his pants are on fire, but i very specifically remember my epischopal preacher chastising me for going to catholic mass, instead of "protestant" service while in the army. i remember him yelling at me that i broke the most holy tenyre of the church for "consorting with child molesters and papist pigs". i remember, because it was the last time i ever saw him. we both agreed that i was no longer welcome at St Timmothy's Epischopal church any more.
i grew up, a protestant, in Catholic Mexico. some children were not allowed to play with us because "we were not christian". our scout troop kept trying to get my brother and me to go to mass. our church was burned down, because people did not want "cultists, or sectarians in their neighbourhood". believe me when i tell you that the biggest persecutors of christians tend to be other christians. |

I really feel bad for every one that had these experances...I grew up in the military...military schools and all...I never saw any of this...not in Army boot or A schools...I did see a lot of Jew and Christian bashing by non Christians...at the time I was not a Christian...but they did not bother me with their talks... come to think about it...in Boot at Ft Knox in the winter of 1971...we were all made to go to church on Sundays...we would stay there two to three hours...eat sandwiches and drink coffee...why because it was warm in there and not in our barracks...we had post WW2 POW barracks...they were building what everyone called "HOLLY WOOD" brick barracts up on the hill...
