I went to transportation to start the DITY move process, and listed a date in October as the start of my move. I also planned on using a rental truck for the move. According to DITY move calculators, as well as my peers, the rates for moving are significantly less on or after November 1. A move between May and October would give me an entitlement of just over $10,000 (before taxes) for 10,000 lbs. November through April would be worth just over $4,000 (before taxes) for 10,000 lbs. My question is: when does the DITY move officially start? I have already moved just over 1000 lbs and have two weight tickets -- both empty and full using my POV (in October). I will be picking up the rental truck the first week of November and of course will get weight tickets for it. Does the move start when I used my pov? If so, do the peak season rates apply to the entire amount of weight I end up moving or only to the amount moved with the pov? Since I listed "rental truck" on line (7.g.) of the dd form 2278, will the rates be based off of the weight tickets and rental contract of the rental truck, which will be in November? Oh, and I will be signing out from battallion the second week of November. I am in the guard, so the orders that brought me down here are the orders that bring me back and there is no specific date for return. Does the DITY move start when I sign out from battallion to leave the post? I have spent the last two weeks searching the web, and talking to my buddies who are also in the process of moving, as well as talking with the transportation office, and have yet to find any sort of definitive answer.
