My primary question right now is about BAH. I understand it can take a while to kick in, but once it does, how does it work exactly? If he leaves on the 1st of one month, and we see a pay check the next month, will there be 2 months worth of BAH or just one?

BAH works just like other pay in that it is an after the fact pay. You have to work first in order to earn it. So the BAH received on the 1st of the month is for the previous month's work.

Therefore, you would only receive one month worth of BAH.
