---this is a repost, i had it in finance, got no answers, but saw this forum and thought it might be better--- So my husband has been having problems with his pay for awhile now, he recently got it fixed, so we thought, so there is no confusion im going to try to explain everything that has happened. We live over seas and he is an E-3, with just one dependent(me). About a month ago his pay checks were only 400, each pay was only that much. They were taking meal deduction and claiming he wasnt married when he has been getting paid for being married for months now, all of a sudden he was single, i dont know how it is at other bases but i know here in germany you dont get a meal card when you are married, if you want to eat at the chow hall you have to pay for it out of pocket, my husband have never eatin there. they were taking out 500-600$ a pay for meal deduction. after he got this straightned out we got an advanced debt and thought things were solved, well i just checked the new LES and his pay is for 200$, under the deductions there is a meal collection for 166$ and a debt for 908$, he is not getting 1180$ for BAH out cola is around 400 like useual and he got a clothing entitlement for 133$, his last pay was for 2,142$ after the advanced debt and everything, after they took out the last pay the meal collection and this random debt his pay is so low we cant even pay any bills or anything! my husband is currently in the hospital and wont be out for another week, i dont have a power of atorney yet and he deployes in 2 weeks! What should we do?? we used up almost all of our savings when his pay was only 400 for no joke 3 paychecks. someone please tell me what to do here!!
Hes in the hospital until friday, and friday is a family day so everything is closed anyway, is there anyway they will be able to fix it now so we can pay our bills or will we be waiting until next pay to see any change? Is there anything i can do without a POA?

Does the First Shirt know that he is in the hospital? It shouldn't really matter, but sgtmom is correct, contact the First Shirt. And do it yourself if your husband is still in the hospital and cannot contact him.
You can also go over to the Airman and Family Readiness Center and talk to them about an emergency loan if necessary. Finance will probably not speak with you without a POA.
I figured they wouldnt, its really hard right now because he has been in and out of the hospital for weeks now from a work related injury and just when we get things straightened out things go crazy again and he is leaving so soon and the legal office is insanly busy so getting an appointment is like winning the lottery around here, ugh, so much stress all at once. After i go visit him at the hospital i am going to the AMU to see his First Shirt and hopefully she can help me out! I am going to have to go to the familoy readiness center because we have a loan payment comming out on the first and i just paid all out other bills the other day and my husband bought all his deployment stuff thinking this pay was going to be correct so we wernt to worried about running the act low, now its a big mess. oh thanks again guys i appricate it more than you know!!
So i talked to the first shirt and she practically shunned me and wouldnt help me out. So now we will have to wait until monday to do anything...great! Thanks for the help though!
Since the first shirt isn't being helpful, is there any way he can call Finance from the hospital? It's probably a moot point now anyway as pay has already been calculated for the next paycheck but he might be able to get something started tomorrow.
He also needs to check with Personnel to make sure that you haven't been removed from DEERS as Finance is saying that he isn't married anymore.
Thankfully he is getting released tomorrow and we will be going straight to legal to get me a POA, finance only takes appointments on thursdays and friday is a family day so we will be waiting until monday for sure now. Im not sure if i was removed from DEERS. They were paying him for single airman a few weeks ago but "fixed it" so they claim. but we will be sure to check that out too, thanks for the heads up about that! Now we willo just have to hurry up and wait...story of our lives ha ha.
People are removed from DEERS with no explanation. We moved from Washington to Hawaii and our kids were deleted, guess they were like lost luggage on the plane?? lol So it does happen.
I think its mainly an AF thing, I haven't heard it outside the AF.
I do think the 1SG is what it equates to in the Army. I think the S1 equates more to the AF's "orderly room" but I think the AF got rid of that terminology now.
It's funny to me the different colloquialisms used in the different branches. The AF uses "First Shirt" but isn't the Army 1SG also called "Top"? (Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have all the slang figured out yet.)

I'm really sorry to hear that! Yeah it seems like they've been having a lot of problems recently, so hopefully it's just a technical problem and you'll get it resolved soon. If they really aren't paying him fairly, however, you should probably apply for a loan so that way you'll have some money while you get this problem straightened out. My friend in the Air Force was in a financial slump recently and he used militaryloans.com they gave a him a good amount of money.
