My suggestion is to go to the education office on your base. They will have information for spouses as well as the service member. The new GI Bill is transferrable, but it's based on approval, not a guarantee because he wants to. Also be advised, that once it is transferred, it can NOT be transferred back to him. There are a lot of scholarships and grants out there for spouses, so look into all of your options. There is also a Military Spouse Career Advancement Account with up to $6000 of financial assistance for highly demanded, highly transferrable jobs. Also, some schools offer Military Spouse Programs with a reduced tuition rate also. So there are a lot of possibilities to help with your education. An education counselor on your base can help you with these options.

The law is written so that the active duty service member may revoke the transfered benefits at any time. These benefits also may not be treated as community property in a divorce settlement by law. So yes, these Post 9/11 Gi Bill education benefits may easily transfered back the the active duty service member as long as they have not been used by the spouse/children.

I just signed up for the MyCAA. It took about 5 days of researching the types of programs that were considered "portable". Another 5 days or so to research the schools and what they offered and then I just called a couple of the schools to see what they had to offer and when I made my decision as to what and where I signed up on the MyCaa website. I was approved within 10 days and I am waiting for Monday morning to register for my class. It was all very painless and easy to do. I am also taking advantage of the Military spouses program at Coastline Community College. They are all online and the charge spouses $69 a credit hour and the books are free. Look into both of the programs and see if they are for you.

You should not worry about that list at all, actually.

With the recent expansion of the program came an expansion of what they would pay for, and leaves greater concideration and flexibility. I was approved for an engineering program, which is not on any "list" of approved degree programs published anywhere publically.

Best idea is to submit for what you think you'd enjoy, then work out a comprimise if it is disaproved.
