Received mine today - it's already a mess. I am taking 2 classes at the moment and they sent me 3K.

To top it off, I had the hardest time talking to a VA person. When I finally got someone, they told me to cash it, and they claimed that the difference would be accounted for on future TA requests.

Somehow I don't get a warm and fuzzy about that Roll Eyes

edit: MGIB route here - verified school attendance a month ago. Everytime I try to call, all I get is "we're" too busy. Understandable, I'm sure they're overwhelmed, but dang...this sucks. Hopefully they get some sort of automated system that can alleviate all this mess.

Spend it wisely as you will not receive any future VA payments until the $3000.00 debt is cleared.

Yes, Congress told VA they had to implement this new GI Bill in one year - VA had told them repeatedly in the congression hearing before the law was past that it would take two years for them to prepare/train/implement this program. Takes time to hire/train new employees and develop the new software. Congress said "we don't care - this will get us votes".

Well...how should I go about claiming future classes? Do I submit a proof of enrollment and they will log it and deduct it from that debt? No offense to you personally, as I am under the assumption that you work for VA, but I am not all that confident that this is going to go smoothly.

...appreciate your feedback so far!

A. Yes, I work undercover as a secret agent for the VA, lol - my real name is Bruce Wayne and I drive the Batmobile around fighting criminals. No, I am a retired MSG, US Army, 24 years and I now work for an institution of higher learning as a school certifying official so I do work with both veterans/students and VA Education, which is why I was asked to be a Moderator. VA would fire their employees for openly participating in these forums.

B. Yes, If you debt can not be repaid during this current semester and you are certified for future semesters, VA will withhold payments until the debt is cleared or you can elect to make payments on your debt, if you end up with one.

Are you at the 1/2 time rate of pursuit under MGIB entitled to $684.00 per month plus any "kicker" programs? (rates went up 1 Oct 09)?

Ha! Sorry for the assumption...

Either way, I am keeping the money in the bank, and will only spend it for school. And yes, according to their phone recording, I am supposed to be receiving 684.00 a month (no top off). I just don't like having money in the bank that isn't really mine at the moment. It doesn't quite feel right fro some reason.

It has happened in the past, emergency payments were written off as debt by the Government, as this $3k may give more problem than help in the future... Cool

I'm glad there was an online application too...the 3 days plus mailing time was true to mine.
