Note: It takes approximately 1.5 hours for VA to process each Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI Bill application.

The note is from the posted linked website above...just how long we have to wait, for over 234,000 of those vets like me, is just an approximate.

I wonder how many people does VA has to process those claims Roll Eyes

1.5 hours to process one...even if it's on paper, with pens used...no pc or typewriter, that is still very slow in my opinion.

Why? See, each application has been approved by them in as far as qualification is concerned, or else one can not apply. The schools, like mine, submitted my application the same day I was certified by the counselor as taking the appropriate classes.

The 1.5 hours per claim is a bit overstated. When the VA was putting together its data and came out with that figure of 1.5 hours, the folks doing the grunt work on those claims were brand new people. And enrollments were not processed until right before 8/1/09. Those folks working those claims are now working at a faster pace with a higher degree of accuracy. But the VA does not have the tools at their disposal to process things very fast.

Be patient, you'll get your dough.

Did you try to verify your attendance - under Chapter 30, MGIB you must verify your attendance monthly to have your payments released to your bank account. If you don't verify, you don't get paid. Call 18778232378 to verify attendance (Post 9/11 GI bill doesn't have to do the monthly verification).

The VA toll free phone number to check on the status is 1-888-442-4551. You will have to dial this number repeatedly just to be placed on hold and 10 or 15 minutes later you will be able to talk to some one.

You can also check with your school to see what day they submitted the certification of your enrollment - VA should have your payments setup about 6 weeks after that date. If they submitted your certification around 15 Aug you would be able to verify attendance on 30 sept and receive your payment from the 1st day of school through the end of september.

They are not open 24 hours a day, lol. Have to call between 8 am and 4:30 pm central standard time.

Call 1-877-838-2778 to verify what bank account information the VA has on file. again between 8 am and 4:30 pm.

Your school VA rep, like me, has to call the same phone number, 10 to 20 times, wait on hold just to talk to someone about your situtation. school official do not have a seperate number to call, just the same number I gave you.

CH33, Post 9/11 GI Bill will never be on WAVES. The law does not require that anyone verify their attendance monthly to VA.

Only CH30, Montgomery GI Bill, CH1606 Montogomery GI Bill - Selective Reserves and CH1607 REAP require monthly verification.

But why did my school VA rep gave me that website to WAVE and told me to verify my enrollment on a monthly basis, every end of the month or first week of the month.

That question you need to ask you School Certifying Official. VA is not requiring you or anyone using Post 9/11 GI Bill to verify their attendance monthly.

Are you sure your being certified under the Post 9/11 GI Bill?

The WAVE homepage indicated that the Chap 33 were not there yet a few weeks ago...now they have taken out that statement, maybe you are right...and if you are then better for us. Yes, I have received an email from VA-ONCE that my school rep has certified my enrollment. I hope that will suffice.

A possible relief to those who are renting for school and has not received their BAH...which now VA said will be payable only after 1 month of enrollment.

Gilbert - I've explained repeatedly in many of my postings:

All of the VA Education Programs pay in arrears - that means you attend school in August and are paid during the 1st week of Sept for August - doesn't matter which program you are using.

Been this way for over 30 years - and it's all over the www.gibill.va.gov web site in multiple pages.

Thanks Counselor.

I just love to post Smile

If one has to rent for school attendance, IOU will never work...I simply want to voice my perception to such problem. Now, 10 weeks? Where is the nearest Regional office? Smile

Follow the link in the message to find out the location of your nearest Regional Processing Office. Also check with your school to see if they will be sending someone to your area.

The instruction is go to a regional office and bring your school or course schedule...of course along with anything you have to prove that you are entitled and been certified. The question now is how long will it take for them to cut your check...goodluck!
