I came across this article, and all I keep thinking is, "Wow, $3.5 million would radically transform the SCSG."
Does anyone know what the breakdown is on this estimate? Such a large startup cost seems excessive, and a barrier to getting a lot of Kansans on board with backing an SDF for their state.
They are probably assuming that the costs for a KSSG would be the same as fielding the KSARNG. We all know that's not true. Unless, of course, they really DO field them like a KSARNG unit. Then more power to them.
Generally SDFs either devote themselves more or less to providing support to the NG or training for missions that the NG occassionally is asked to do, but doesn't train for, such as SAR. Depends on the state.
