Not sure. Most likely depends on what the RE-4 was for. Since SDF's are autonomous with little oversight by the Army and NGB, different states have different applicable regs and laws. The only real answer will come from them directly: http://www.txsg.state.tx.us/ . There is another website as well if you want to use a search engine. Try VAJoe, also known as Allmilitary DOT com . Many SDF soldiers regularly on there. I have known some RE-4's in the SDF, so it is possible, at least has been in the past. So give it a shot. |

So hard that it won't happen. RE-4 codes are strictly prohibited in the TXSG. |

What reg says TX will not take RE-4's under any circumstances? The only reason I ask is because even the Army will take RE-4's under some instances as outlined in AR 601-280. RE-4 just mean you are not eligible for reenlistment without waiver. Do you take retirees in TX? All retirees receive an RE-4 discharge. Do you have any prior service soldiers who are receiving any form of disability? They get an RE-4. So it depends on what the RE-4 is for, as I mentioned, at least in Georgia, as well as the US Army. |

Note that the OP does not state RE-4R which would indicate retired. TXSG Policy, as asked by the OP (not Georgia, Zimbabwe, Costa Rica, etal..) does not allow enlistment of a straight RE-4 code "back from 10 to 15 yrs ago."
I hope this clears the confusion. |
