Hi,

DFAS has said that they gave me travel pay in 2007, which was a YEAR after my discharge which was in 2006. I NEVER received travel pay from them and have been disputing this claim back and forth for almost a year now. They sent me an LES with the amount and the bank account it was SUPPOSEDLY direct deposited to.

I contacted my bank and received that statement for that month and year. It was NEVER direct deposited into my account and had the representative search for that money and direct deposit from DFAS since the opening of my account and I was NEVER sent this money or deposited into my account.

They sent the issue to collection and I have highlighted bank statements, sent dispute letters, even sent them DD 214 stating that I got out the military a YEAR before this travel pay was supposedly paid to me. I never heard of an employer paying someone a YEAR after they leave, lol. Anyways I have never had this debt nor have they ever paid me travel pay. How do I get this resolved?

I have sent bank statements, highlighted all their information, DD 214 and letters to them sent certified mail to both DFAS and the Collection Agency. Each time I call DFAS they tell me to refer to the collection agency. I called and they told me this was the first time they even looked at my file. They also said they will re-send to get verified once again, because my dispute was sent back as valid. It seems like the representatives at the Collection Agency and DFAS do not hear what I am explaining or even care.

I don't know what to do I am an unemployed college student. I never received money from them and they took my Tax money and my Veterans Disability money. They say I owe a thousand and it's on my credit report and they now have about $850 taken from me to credit this supposed debt but I never even got paid a travel pay.

I am very distraught over this as I am willing to pay for money if and only IF I had a debt but I never even got paid from them. It is like if someone said you owed money on a car loan, but never even had the car loan and put it into collection. Emotionally this is impacting me as it has impacted my credit score, I have called DAV they said they only deal with the VA and not DFAS.

I am calling free legal help in my state because at this point I want to sue DFAS for wrongful claim. I don't know what to do, I highlighted all information and sent documents to support NEVER receiving travel pay and I don't know if they even read or saw the documents, because it is very elementary unless the person reviewing doesn't speak english or can't comprehend elementary english.

Does anyone know how I can get this resolved? I have no problem paying for a debt that I owe but WILL NOT pay for a debt that I never even had nor was paid for to begin with.

Please help. Thanks for anyone's assistance.

I have linked it to Finance. Maybe someone there can help.

Ask DFAS to see the travel voucher and travel orders that the travel pay was based on. Both must exist before a travel payment is made.
On the devil's advocate side - Did you ever receive a travel pay for around the amount DFAS claims you were paid? The reason I ask is because maybe it was paid out a 2nd time?
Good luck; cul8r.

I work for DFAS and if you can contact me by email or message. I can find out what the debt is for and get it resolved but I need some information first.

I would strongly recommend that evermember use only official contacts with any government agencies rather than giving any information to someone you do not know and who may or may not have your best interest at heart. [/b]

I'm closing this forum for moderators' review.
