Why can 100% service connected veterans can not take military hops? They have Exchange, Commissary & Recreational previliges basiclly everything but the military hop privilege. Even if it would be at a cost that would be great.

It is the law. And from what I know it is much more complex than it sounds. First the low priority level would mean that members would seldom actually get on a hop.

Congress has decided to award the privileges it has to 100% SC vets. As one of those, I have always enjoyed the privileges we do not. We have Exchange, Commissary and MMR privileges.

I also feel that to give us a higher priority may prevent a AD member from getting a hop home. I would hate to ever do that.

As a military retiree, I'm eligible for hops, but there are big problems. In our priority we can get bumped anywhere that the sea is needed. That means even at "God forsaken places" you have to be prepared to get lodging and transportation.

It can create great additional cost and you may never get to your destination. I have been bumped in Alaska and Louisiana. Lodging cost were out of my budget in Alaska. There were know vacancy at any of the military installations in either place.

Space A means Space Available. Anyone with a higher priority can bump you. If it ain't available, it ain't available.

A listening ear, a caring heart, an open mind and an extended hand may be all I can offer, but it is yours without charge or Judgment.

BRUCE..

maybe borderline off topic..not sure!

Yesterday, I received the new issue of Army Echoes..and oddly enough, it had a page of Space A travel in it..and now they have created a comprehensive website with the latest updates...to prevent..like you said..bumps. Supposedly they're trying to get more to use the Space A program.

Side note. I've used it, never been bumped, and the food was GOOD and it was cheap..NOT AS CHEAP as it was for a E-3, but cheap.

p.s If I am ever off topic or out of line...by all means..move me..DAVE_M does it now and then, and I appreciate him..for taking the time to place it in the right place. So..Thank you Dave_M as well..
