Depends on attained (current) age. The Retired Military Almanac indicates average military retired life expectations (nondisability) at age 40 is 36.1 years; age 50 28.9 years; age 60 20.5 years...and like that. Life time average increases as you age because one has demonstrated an ability to stay alive. Remember, its not the years in your life, but rather the life in your years.
That's some interesting data. I retired from the Navy when I was 37 and I'm now 73, in reasonably good health and been married for 45 years. I may be the second Methuselah!
dwwest... Be of good cheer. At age 73 the average life expectance is age 85. You know that you are much better than average, right? At age 85 average life expetancy is 91, and at age 91 it is 95.
