First, Vietnam Era vets GI bill has expired due to time limits. Second, they where clear - you must have served in recent conflict era to get the new bill benefits.

"Under pending GI Bill reforms a servicemember or veteran with over 36 months of active-duty service since Sept. 11, 2001, could see an increase of approximately $2,000 a month over the current Montgomery GI Bill payment rate of $1,101."

Dave, so that means I can't use Vietnam era GI bill for any schooling at all. When there's a disability involved can one of these bills help me? If so in what way? (thanks) Robert Huff.

The new GI bill appears to only cater to those that served after sept 11. What a bunch of bull. What about everyone that served before that? We get nothing...Not fair in my eyes

You may be eligible for Voc Rehab. Check with a VSO.

We had a time limit on the use of our GI bill. Mine has lapsed many years ago. I used part of it and Voc Rehab 30 years ago.

As to the new GI bill, it is only for those who have served during the period of the current wars. I for one do not have a problem with this provision. I had my chance and used some of my benefits.

Join the Pre 9/11 club! I Served 93-97. Downsizing of the military. Not my fault I did not go to war. We all signed up knowing anytime we could go to war. Somalia happened and Bosnia. These people did not get any thanks. I would go home on leave every year and few people would look at me. I am glad New Veterans get praise now. I am not looking for hand claps etc. But it is bull that a lot of Companies and people donate time and money and help now. Only for 9/11 vets. It upsets me when I see someone thank current veterans and buy their meal. where were these people when we served? Why now? I had some lady ask for donations for Care baskets to send to Iraq. I told her to thank all Veterans. And not just 9/11 ones.
I know I am not the only one who is upset.

I served in the post Vietnam era. None gave a dam for the military then. I can not complain about that. It was the times. I feel good that we are doing more for our combat veterans. The deserve all the help they need.

I can not tell you. As I posted, I will not take question until the VA issues final regulations.

VA Regional Offices for Education ARE answering these and many other questions related to the new GI Bill. They seemed educated on the procedures and such. Why would they not be? This is a hot topic and are receiving lots of inquiries on it. So call them up.

I was just stupid enough to bleed my GI Bill away. Kept holding it off... "oh, I have plenty of time". And,then it was gone.

Iwasted it....how stupid I was. When were young,we take so much for granted. Roll Eyes
