Hi all, Glad to find this forum! I have a situation that has made it impossible to remain a Senior Member, and I sure wish I could figure something out because I was always proud to wear my uniform (old-school ...prefer not to wear CAP distinctive), and was so happy to help in any way possible. Ok, I was a 2Lt with a PAO Specialty. We ended up selling our property and are now Full-time RVers ...North during the summer, South during the winter. The problem I have is that 6 months in a single location is not fair to any given squadron. I wrote National HQ and discussed the situation, but they had no answers for me. I did get an offer for a "new" National Squadron (some time ago) and thought this may be an answer. I was disappointed when I received my card and it stated my status as "Patron". Ah, the National "Patron" Squadron. So, I go on wishing I could participate like I did before, and once again proudly wear the CAP uniform.
Wow, rambled on there. Sorry! Did I make any sense? Is anyone else out there in the same situation? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
If you're anywhere for six months just find a Squadron and join? My squadron has members with situations like that. They're gone part of the year. When you're around you can come out to meetings. The rest of the time you can stay in cell phone and email contact. You wouldn't be unfair to them unless you took a staff position where you needed to do a job periodically but the job never got done. When you're there if you show up to help any time you're doing fine. Time to get re-activated. Your PO Box ought to be enough for NHQ.
Of course you can only officially join one unit at a time. I would pick the one where you spend the most time and join it, work real hard for them when you're in town, and then stay away from CAP when you're at the other place and enjoy the vacation.
The reality is that when all your paperwork is in one place its going to be real hard for you to participate in another unit in any meaningful fashion. Sure you can go to meetings at the second place, but the hassles involved in getting your ES and otehr qualifications recognized at the second place would probably make it not worth the effort.
Join somewhere and give them the six months you can.
Contact units in the area you are the other 6 months and explain the situation - there's no rule that says you can't participate in another state as an ES or other asset.
We have a member in our squadron that does that same thing. He's here for 6 months, then transfers to a unit in Flordia for 6 months. Works fine, no problems.
