Well, the CAP forum on military.com has never really been all that active for the years I've been around and has rarely had much interesting discussion. But, I stuck around just in case something worthwile popped up and to occassionally represent actual current CAP members (a minority here evidently).

But, since the forum has basically become dominated by a troll I've found that I just don't have the energy to beat back their every mistatement. I'd rather spend my online time doing something more positive.

Though I hate leaving this little pocket of negativity behind to fester, I feel it can't do that much harm since I estimate that only about 30-40 people visit it regularly anyway and few of those actually post.

Anyone left with an interest in rational discussion should go over to CAPTalk

See ya!

Well, if you are talking about Guardrail and his incessant spewing, well, I tend to agree.
It is my OPINION that he is only concerned with UNIFORMS. He continuously claims to be denied (screwed over) service in the AF due to a disbility. His posts are negative, and he is doing nobody any good. His non-stop diatribe of "when I rejoin the CAP, when I have time..." got old a long, looooooong time ago. I am considering joining, although I bet I have a little more on my plate than he does, with a kid, 6 horses, 4 goats, 6 dogs, 4 cats, 5 acres, and a full time job as a police officer, working the UNGODLY shift of 0300 to 1200. GUardrail, just go away, dude. Your crap is old.
Tell you what. Why don't you mail order and collect a unform of your own design , and wear it in your parent's basement while you are making the Vulcan hand sign and watching re-runs of "Star Trek"..... That is probably the only uniform satisfaction you will get. It's about the organization, not your selfish views. In my opinion, the CAP is better off without you and your like.

TSgt Schubeck, I respect your service, but please get off my back. I do not only care about uniforms. If you want to see people who only care about uniforms, look no further than CAPTalk.

I do admit to sometimes going overboard. When I get into a topic, I really get into it. So if someone comes across 500 posts of mine in one topic on uniforms, I can see how that person would think that's all I care about.

If you only judge my character based on the posts I have made here then you, sir, have almost nothing to go off of. I don't know what kind of a judge of character you are, but please realize this: I do not act in public the way I do on this forum. I have enough strength of character to be one way online and another way in public; that is just who I am.

And I was going to respond to your "Star Trek uniform in the basement" comment, but I am above that.

What I will say, however is that I have already contributed positively to CAP: one cadet I mentored is now a pilot in the Air Force and there are two others who commission soon and are on their way to being pilots as well. There is also a fellow I helped train as a cadet who is now a PO2 (Seabee) in the Naval Reserve who works as a volunteer with a local recruiter and is trying to go to Iraq.

So how can you say that CAP is better off without me, sir? How can you say that when I've already made a positive difference?

I have to agree with the above. And now, by his statement, you are successfully running people off from a topic they lke to discuss. I wonder how many others have stopped looking at this forum for the same reasons.

Hey, when I first got on these forums you always were the first to answer and most of the time had the best information. Thanks for how you helped me out when I first joined. Hope to run into you on CAPTalk! By the way, I'm the cadet that had to take off of CAP for 3 months. Now I'm back in the program, and I'm promoting to C/TSgt tomorrow!!! I took your advice seriously, and it really did help.

As it seems that the board has returned to a generally rational level of discussion, I suppose I'll stop in every now and again (not that I think anyone has been pining away for me Wink ), especially since it looks like some of my old posts are still generating some occassional responses...

I haven't posted here in a long time since I haven't been a member of CAP for almost two years. I had a very bad experience with the GOB network in another state and quit. I have thought of rejoining, there's a squadron less than half an hour from me, but whenever I think about contacting them, I think about the bad experience. Not trying to gripe, just a personal dilemma I haven't resolved.

And, since I am not a member of CAP, I don't feel I have right or privilege to prescribe "solutions" for CAP problems.

However, there are suggestions I have that would definitely get me to rejoin - and these are steps that have a fart's chance in a hurricane of actually happening.

National Commander an Air Force Reserve MG with a CAP BG as deputy. I would say ANG too, but there might be Title 10 issues. I'm not sure.

Elimination of Form 2B without some form of hearing modeled on Art. 32 UCMJ.

Reintroduction of promotable enlisted/NCO grades.

Reintroduction of warrant officers. I know the Air Force doesn't currently have them, but they're not prohibited as far as I know.

Extend TIG to 1 year for appointment as 2LT, following squadron review board.

Reform of IG and promotion systems to ensure they are done strictly by CAP and Air Force regulations, with no deviations.

OK, the thorny subject of uniforms...

When the Air Force standardizes on their new service dress, adopt the "TPU" uniform as the standard CAP service dress...and make amendments for facial hair (that way I wouldn't have to shave my beard off to wear it Wink)

Bring on the hurricane...

I've made a number of posts that echo your sentiments. If you look at a well functioning Military or volunteer organization there's always a continued emphasis on what it takes to promote unit cohesion and inspire people give of themselves and their time.

Well, we haven't heard from Guardrail in a while... could it be that he took the hit and left? Maybe we will see more positive discussions on the horizon...?
