Can anyone tell me what background investigation is run on CAP pilots. Specifically is it a SAC or NACLC or something different all togther. Any point in the right direction would be most helpful.
Well the first question is, are you a member as of yet? If you aren't, here's what happens.
You'll complete a membership application, and have to be fingerprinted for an FBI background check. The policy is the a prospective member attends atleast three meetings. If you were a former cadet, you have a general idea of how the program works, and you won't have to spend close to a month on attending meetings to something you want to join.
Once you clear the background, you'll show up in the national database, and be issued a CAPID number. Depending on your pilot qualifications, you can earn an advanced rank. Private pilot can get your Second Lieutenant, private pilot with instruments can get you First Lieutenant, and CFI or CFII can get you Captain. It also depend on how many hours you have in a plane. CAP usually uses Cessna 172's and 182's, but the 182 glass cockpits are being phased in as the budget allows.
Check with the commander of the unit you intend to join, and show him the documentation regardin your pilots license. If this is something you want to do, then by all means, pursue it. But understand, you won't be flying all the time. Just when funding is available in your Wing.
