When a waiver is sent upon request by the Meps doc to USAREC,for shoulder surgery done on Sept19 2006,it came back stating a one year wait is required from date of surgery.I was already released from my doctor,I understand the waiver reasoning but lets say I'm having a follow up MRI in a couple of days to check everything out,if that shows good, could I take that report back to Meps and let the same doc read it and have him pass me at that point so I could go ahead and enlist now?Or am I just waisting my time ?

Yes.i handed over all documents to the recruiter and he sent them up for a prescreen and they said send me up.Passed everything, got to the sit down portion with the doc and he looked over the paperwork and looked at the small scar and put down on his paperwork he recommended a waiver. They sent it on a Friday and it came back Monday stating that for that type of surgery it is a one year wait from the surgery date.My question is did I just get the one doc that just said waiver, would one of the others said your good to go?The doc did not check range of motion or strength, all he did was look at it and send me on my way.But like I said I will have a follow up MRI this week and I was wondering if that shows everything still good would that make a difference now,or should I just wait for Sep 19th, that will be one year. All my paperwork and physical were done in May.

I'd ask the recruiter to send up the new MRI but it may not make a difference. If it was sent up to USAREC and Doc Wong said it was a year wait, then it may just be a year wait. The best you can do is try. It sounds like your recruiter and MEPS took all of the appropriate steps so far.

Look on the bright side. If they don't approve you right now, you could just take a year of college classes at the local community college and come in at a higher rank with a high grad bonus.

Like I said the year will be up on Sep 19 2007.Only about 6 weeks to go.The waiver said one year from the date of surgery, the surgery was done on Sep 19 2006.I went to meps in May 2007.Do you think I have a chance or just wait the 6 weeks?

During this wait up till now, and continuing on to the 19th, I would hope you have been actively working on your PT Run push and situps. Was that the only waiver you required? I ask as I am willing to bet that even AFTER the 1 year wait you will still be required to get a waiver which could take extra time...just be prepared.

Good Luck...

Well the year has come and I called the recruiter, he told me he had been trying to reach me for over a weak. He stated that meps called or sent a memo about sending in any paperwork for individuals with wait periods that were close to being finished. They sent mine in and meps set up a consult for last Monday, well they did not reach me to let me know and I was assuming I had to wait until the 19th Sep. Anyway I missed my appointment and they sent up a request for another appointment. The recruiter stated they wanted to get me to swear in by next week(end of the month). Can this consult happen in that short of time and is it possible to swear in and ship by next week? I se alot of guys posting about shipping on the 28th Sep going to WTC in Sill, I would love to be in this group, hopefully all this can take place this week. Let me know what you think(or know for fact).

depending on how many kids you have, a dependency waiver is not a sure thing

I guess it would be hard to get 4 or 5 kids waived. I think 3 or more needs a waiver, right?

that is, (or was) correct. E-1 or E-2 pay won't go a long way with any kids, but 3 or more would be really tough.

I have to get a waiver for 3 kids. I filled out the paperwork. They ask about my bills and bank account info; how much money we have. We don't have but a car payment. We should be ok though. we've got a pretty good nest egg in the checking. I think that should help with their decision.
