Hello there, I figured someone in here could help me with this issue. I served in the Army back in 95-00. I did 2 1/2 years reserve DEP as a 95B then transfered to active duty and did 3 as an 88M. I've since received my Bachelors and been thinking about re-joining the Army as an officer. The problem I have is obviously the RE-4 and the reason "homosexual admission." Without going into too much detail regarding my situation is there any way I can re-enlist? I am not gay, I was going through marital problems at the time and needed a way out. It was an embarrassing mistake on my part.
In fact you probably are SOL. If your DD 214 says RE-4, then AR 601-210 states you cannot be enlisted in the Army period. No waivers authorized. That's not to say that no RE-4 has ever made it in, but in your case it sounds like you don't have much of a possibility. I'd put your chances at miniscule. If you are trying to join the Army as an OCS candidate then you are definitely suffering from some form of delusion because you have to go before an oral board at the recruiting battalion and have your packet approved at USAREC to be selected. Your entire case to change your RE code is that you lied to the Army to get out because of marital issues. That's not exactly one of the values they are looking for in an officer, and you can't say you didn't know any better because you are Prior Svc. If any recruiter has the time and willingness to touch your case with a 10 foot pole, then I say good luck, but if I were you I'd probably hit Monster.com and look for a nice civilian job.
