I don't know if this is the right forum to post this question.
I am currently SPC(P) deployed in support of OEF, with less than 6 months left here. My ETS is actually today, 30 Jan 08, and I am an initial term soldier. I am with reserve component right now, wanting to go to A/C. I have talked to retention NCO, and was advised to put in RC/AC packet in to HRC, but was told that most likely I won't be given an option to reclass since 88N is a critical skill MOS.
When looking at MILPER 07-293, 35P is under-strength in certain languages, like Arabic or Persian/Farsi, which I actually hope to get, scored 128 on DLAB. But 35P is not critical. 88N on the other hand is critical, but currently balanced, per the same MILPER.
Am I going to have a problem going on active duty as 35P (given I am fully qualified for position) through RC/AC program while deployed? Or should I just come back home, have a break in service, and then try to re-enlist? Also, if I'll be able to get a hold of a specific unit that has an open slot for 35P, would obtaining paragraph and line numbers do any good when talking to career counselor/recruiter?
