I stole this thread from "stands_man" over at hawkdriver.com, but I thought some here might be interested. I was also hoping someone could shed light on the CG aviator bonus system.

Armyflyer,

The Coast Guard bonus system for aviators is pretty complicated so read this carefully so you don't get confused:

Coast Guard aviators currently receive no bonus unless you want to call the standard ACIP a bonus..

I hope you understood it because it took me a while to get it sorted out myself. Smile

Not many of us try to jump ship so the Coast Guard doesn't seem to think they need to give us a bonus to stay when we are willing to stay without it.

The only bonus I get is an entrenching tool and lensatic compass, so I'm not sure the Army offer is much sweeter.

Back around 2000 they offered a fixed wing bonus contracts from 2-6 years which several people took. The eligibility window was rather small and you could only get one if you had no obligation for service.

Rumors are floating around that they will be back. If that includes rotary wing pilot this time around, if it ever comes around, time will tell.

At the moment, there is/will be a small pilot shortage. Not sure if a bonus will be part of the fix. I'd speculate not if folks are knocking on the door to come in as DCA's. We'll have to see how it plays out.

last word from the detailers was that a bonus was not currently on the table as a way to keep/get pilots. The DCA boards have been focusing on fixed wing lately and we are getting more fixed wing folks so I wouldn't expect a bonus anytime soon.

I just re-confirmed....

We're looking for both fixed wing and helo bubbas. More fixed than helo but need both. If anyone knows of any DOD types who might be interested they can email me at work and I'll forward it on to a HQ POC (pilot type) who can answer their questions.

I believe there's a very experienced Cathay Pacific first officer for Boeing jumbos that has recently become available.

It doesn't help fixed wing pilot retention either when a larger than normal percentage of them get passed over for O4. That's a quick way to start losing pilots in a hurry. The C130 O3's took a beating on this last O4 selection board. Confused
