Hey everyone. I have done a good deal of research on joining the USCG, but I can't seem to get in touch with a recruiter to discuss my specific questions. First, I am a former airline pilot, fully rated fixed wing pilot and instructor. I have 2250 hrs, most of which are in jets. What I can't figure out is if there is any assurance that if I enlist, that I will become a Coast Guard pilot. I'd prefer to fly fixed wing, but I honestly only want to join to continue my flying career. I have a 4 year aviation degree. Is there any way to become a direct entry candidate with civilian professional experience?
"I have a 4 year aviation degree. Is there any way to become a direct entry candidate with civilian professional experience?" Don't have the book with me, age could disqualify you, Blue 21 program could be an option, no direct entry unless Prior Military Trained Aviator.
A degree in what? Aeronautical Engineering, Air Science .. ??? lots of different programs out there... I was in AE (& flight) myself, while attending Embry Riddle.

If the NOTAMS say's the unregulated field is closed do you land anyway?
Ok, we can run with that analogy. Am I running low on fuel (age 27)? Have I declared an emergency (unemployed)? Are my only options this NOTAM'd strip, crashing on a mountain (like the job market), or putting her in the river (drowning in bills)?
So my answer is...maybe?
Looking for advice. Guess you don't think that stopping by is a great idea. Figured some people have to stop by, because not everyone has the internet.
Go on-line to the USCG site, look at officer assion programs, look for Direct Commision Aviator as see what the qualifiers are. If you meet the minimums, start putting your info package together. Recriuters are afuly bussy now a days but do not give uo.
He doesn't meet the DCA requirements as he was not a military pilot.
As for seeing the recruiter, keep calling. Recruiters tell you to call first because their schedules usually keep them out of the office so they need to set up a meeting time. You are simply wasting your time going unannounced.

Actually, access to the internet is a must due to the fact that the EQUIP (Security Clearance Questionnaire) must be filled out online.
My guess is that the office you are trying to contact is extremely busy (ALL of them are). It may not be the answer you want to hear, but keep calling. Also, if you go to www.gocoastguard.com , on the left, under Get Answers, click on find a recruiter. Click on whatever state you live in, and then click on the closest recruiting office to your house. There, you will find the email address of the point of contact at that office. Send them an email and request an application. Not many offices will schedule an appointment without the application on file first. The reason for this is that they need to find out if you are baseline qualified. This time if year is probably the busiest, due to the fact that all the kids have graduated high school and college, and many of them are looking to apply to the Coast Guard for employment.
