Five Coast Guard ensigns are being sent to all Coast Guard Air Stations around the United States so that each unit may honor the fallen crew of Coast Guard helicopter 6505. For those of you who haven't seen these pictures, I believe they are worth sharing. (Thank you Steve and Brooks, for sending them my way)

I'll post more pics as they are sent my way.

Great pics. Thanks for posting.

Although I'll have to admit, when I saw the title of your post, I was expecting something along the lines of, "Five Coast Guard Ensigns walk into a bar........."

Just curious what the 5th ensign stands for. I know the other 4 are for the members of 6505

I'm thinking it's for the air craft lost. Nice shots of Sitka Mario.
Thanks for sharing.

Those are beautiful pictures. I was just thinking about the 6505 earlier this week. It's great to honor them. Thanks for posting them.

My understanding is that the fifth ensign will be used at the memorial in barbers point.

I think this memorial honor is the best thing I've seen in my 21 years of service. I have a custom embroidery machine and would be willing to embroider the names of our fallen Guardians if interested. It would be an honor to help ensure our crewmembers are remembered forever.

I can be found in the global if anyone would like more info.

Maybe after the families receive their albums and recognitions (first!), more pics can get posted. Cool

My apologies, John, if posting the pics prior to the events you mentioned in your post created any problems. No discussion of holding back the pics was made when they were forwarded to me or when they were posted for public view on the USCG visual information gallery. I've received other photos since then but I will refrain from posting them here until the albums and recognition you mentioned in your post are completed.

No worries....just a respectful observation on etiquette....Cool

When appropriate, I'm sure a nice post with all the photo's posted would be of interest to all. There are some great ones out there. I was hoping someone would do it. Thanks for volunteering. Smile

Here is a link to the photo album, "Flags of Our Fallen" where you can see more photos. The money made from the sales of the book continues to help the families of the 6505 crew.

The 5th flag was for the Memorial at Barbers Point to remember all of them as a crew.
