No need to feel guilty....the ones who make patches and drink 6 packs don't sweat the BMI too much. Beer

Agree, the local AST shop will hook you up...for a price. You can also check out a place called (dubdubdub)nametapes(dot)com. They make leather "flight badges" for 13.50.

Hmmm... Coast Guard equipment and supplies and selling them? I look at things different now that i am retired. If you are active duty check with Officer or Chief in charge of the shop.

Obviously, if you are active duty go to the shop and put your name in the request logbook. Some shop chiefs may decline to make namebadges for other than aviation types due to budget and man hours. Personal namebadges for jackets or equipment or for your Dad's gift are exceptional requests. The best advise is to check with the Chief and bring a gift, such as some sport drinks to help with the negotiations. Nobody is suggesting selling supplies, but if you want to buy them check the above mentioned sources.

In Sitka 30 years ago you would just walk into the shop if it was open and we would wip you out one while you waited and maybe shoot the $hit for a while. I don't know if the gold leaf or the leather is in short demand now, it never was in my day. The shop was a lot smaller then, 3 asm's and on the second floor.

Corona's always had a way of convincing my ASM's to practice their name tag making skills for non-aviation types seeking name tags...

Back in the late 80's when I flew in Navy choppers off frigats doing the LEDET thing as a non-rate, I went up to Clearwater and stopped in to the ASM shop. Chatted a while and then asked if I could get a leather name badge . They said Sure, and asked what I wanted it for. I told them that I wanted it so I could put it on the Navy flight suite that I would get when I got on board the frigat. I told them I was going to be flying in the Navy 60's for LEDETS. By the time I left, I had a name badge, blue flight suite, a couple helmet liners, gloves, and almost got my own helmet until one of the guys said the Navy used a different mic plug-in system, and the CG helmets wouldn't work in the Navy bird. Great bunch of guys.
