I'm an AET, and I have a friend that is an YN and she is trying to go AMT. She was told that she had to finish her obligated service as a YN BEFORE she could even put her name on the list. I thought that she could put her name on the list while she is serving her obligated time and then if she gets to the top before her time is served, then she would be put on an admin hold. Anyone done this? We've looked through the manuals and cannot find it written that she can't put her name on the list.

That's a good question. If it is not already addressed on the EPM website, have her LCPO or CMC give EPM a call to seek some guidence.

I'm under the impression until they have an approved change of rate package, they can't put their name on an A school list. It's not fair to the others to allow people to do this when it may be for naught if her request is denied.

I went BM to AMT, best decision, ever!
Anyway, you can not even apply without having OBLSRV as a your current rate if you went to class a school.. (I struck so no biggie)
Also, I could not even get my name on the list until I had
1. Completed, and approved CIR package.
2. " " Security Clearance
3. " " Flight Physical
Non-rates got their name on the list as soon as they applied, and got to use that earlier date, while completing the Physical and clearance.

This might have been because I pestered AMTCS Falcon too much, but I was in no way going to let my package sit on someones desk or get lost in the mix

Your YN friend should be able to dig up all kinds of info, I did. Search this board for posts by N_Falcon or something similar. He made several nice posts about this a few years back....
