Basic Training |
I have wanted to become a CG aviator (preferably helo) for a while now and am waiting to finish my college degree before apply for OCS. With that said a family friend (retired Navy) had asked why not Naval Aviation, to which I didn't have a good answer. Does anyone here have any Navy experience (preferably aviation) that could shed some light on the differences between flying in the CG and Navy?
Thanks for the help |

My opinion only..... Two points to consider. 1. The mission - If you have been considering CG aviation then you know the missions....Homeland Security, SAR, LE, etc. Compare that to Navy aviation and decide which set of missions appeal to you more. Legally we can do LE whereas the Navy can't without a CG team attached. I would feel safe saying our pilots spend a bigger percentage of hours doing actual missions compared to the Navy pilot. Someone on here could back me up on that. 2. The equipment - Naval avaition no doubt has a better variety of equipment (planes, weaps, etc) than we do. I will contend we maintain our equipment better than they do and we don't beat the equipment up. We can't afford to. I'm biased of course but I think that point has merit. The choice is yours. Good luck and have a great Memorial Day! |
