I'm currently in the Army as a Warrant, and I'm about 1 year out from separation. I'm at the point where I either have to accept my promotion to W3, or get out and take a chance with the Coast Guard.
My question to who ever can answer is, what is my chance of being accepted? I meet all the requirements with the exception that I do not have my degree. But I do meet the college credit hour requirements. I have a little over 1000 hrs (450 being NVG), and will not require any waivers. a few more questions: -Do you fly NVG's? -How often to the boards convene? -Do you know the dates of the boards? -any advice? thanks, Anthony |

I will try to answer your questions
1 Yes we fly NVG. 2 Boards are set up by your Recruiter I would call one ASAP to get te ball rolling. you missed this DCA cycle so get started on the next one. All dates for the DCA can be found on our web site at www.gocoastguard.com 3 call a recuriter as soon as you can to get the ball rolling is the best advice I can give you AMT1 James Reid Recruiter |

Good information at the following site on the DCA program:
http://aptap.forumco.com/ I got picked up at the December 07 board and am waiting to make the transition over to the CG from the Army National Guard. Lacking a degree will probably hurt you, but the answer will always be 'no' if you don't apply. |

LGUH,
I am a DCA picked up a little over 8 years ago. Prior Army. In all honesty, the boards have gotten a bit more competitive for helicopter pilots in the last few years due to more people leaving other services and the decision to pull a lot more fixed wing folks through the program leaving less spots for available for rotary commissions. With that said, it isn't impossible and it is a great job. what is more important than the degree is the packet itself and the interview. The interview is done with pilots on the board and we really look at how we think you will impact the organization as an officer and as a pilot. I have sat on multiple boards and having some good perfomances in significant additional duties will go far. We do fly NVGs but believe it or not, we have only been flying them for about seven years in all mission profiles. But since we had a lot of DCAs it didn't take too much to get the fleets proficient. The DCA boards usually convene twice a year generally in May and December. Sorry, I don't know the dates but you can start to prepare your package now. As far as advice goes, give it a shot and make sure your packet is solid. Do not be put off if you don't hear the results for a while, they are usually delayed. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me. Good luck. |
